COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Sample @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours pitch black with a creamy and fizzy chocolate brown head that quickly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet with coffee, vanilla, chocolate, honey, roasted malts, dark sweet bread and bourbon. Taste is sweet and tiny bitter with roasted malts, coffee, rich chocolate, vanilla, resin, bourbon, wood and hints of peat and pine. Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth, tiny boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet with coffee, vanilla, honey, chocolate and bourbon. Awesome!

Fad: Kulsort øl med mokkabrunt skumhoved. Fantastisk duft af chokolade og vanilie. Smagen sidder også lige i skabet. Masser af vanilie. Potentielt lige så god som oak aged yeti. Aftenens øl? Det var det så.

Draught @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration.
Pours pitch black color with medium-sized beige head. Aroma of liquorice, sweetish caramel notes, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Flavor of sweet caramel, dark toasted malts, toffee notes, lots of vanilla, bourbon, mild coffee and some hints of syrup. Very complex brew but also very balanced brew with lots of layers. Definitely on my top10 at the time of rating. Majestic.

Jesus vs. Serpentine vertical
Aroma has well roasted mocha coffee, vanilla and some dark chocolate. Really dry and roasted flavour with mocha coffee and vanilla. Warming and slightly stinging alcohol in the finish. Serpent wins.

Draught @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012.
Pours a pitch black colour with a white foamy head which collapses quickly. The aroma is very intense; roasted malts, vanilla, bourbon and some sweet dried fruits. Flavour is even more intense; at first roasted malts, dark chocolate and sweet dried fruits, but after a while vanilla and bourbon take over. Mellow oaky notes in the finish, which create a dry and smooth finish. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Awesome beer and clearly one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted. Just wow.

Pours pitch black with a smooth foamy white head. Lovely aroma of slightly roasted malts, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, chocolate and hints of licorice. Smooth and slightly roasty taste with a lot of bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, chocolate and hints of licorice. Finish is slightly roasty and oily with some bitter coffee notes and hints of bourbon and vanilla. Wow, extremely well balanced and tasty, almost perfect. Definitely top 5 stuff for me.

Draught at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours black with a brown head. Smells amazingly of chocolate, coffee, bourbon, malt. Tastes of a heavy sweet, medium bitter. A well balanced creamy stout. Full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy texture. Simply lovely.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2012 Tap @ CBC. Ink black with a nice small brown head. Aroma had lots of wood, bourbon and vanilla, creamy chocolate ganache, dates and figs. Cocoa nibs and vanilla beans, not much coffee presence other than a hint of fruity espresso. Pleasant aroma. Taste is heavy bourbon and dry wood. Lots of chocolate and burnt caramel, some roasted malt notes and coffee. Lovely cocoa nib and chocolate brownie elements, roundes up by a pleasant amount of hop bittetness. Smooth palate, very creamy. Better than the regular Serpent’s Stout because it’s rare dong whale.

Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Black beer with a nice brown head. Pitch black beer with a brown head. Oak aroma, vanilla, milky, hoppy bitter, mint, cocoa, chocolate. Vanilla and oak flavor, vinous, licorice, hop notes, tar, figs, raisins, chocolate. Lovely balance and a great finish. Top class.

Pour on tap, Avery Strong Ale fest 2012. Dark murky black pour with thin to no dark head, aroma brought notes of thick chocolate, dark fruit, roast, bourbon and espresso, bringing back more chocolate, definitely heavier on that end. Taste was a bit on the sweet side but the chocolate was very authentic, mixing with the vanilla of the bourbon, a slight roasted coffee note helped balanced a bit. Dug this one.
