COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Track 12 is a non fruited sour ale. It is a blend of three base beers (Avant Garde, a previously unreleased sour brown base and Gift of the Magi). There were two barrels of Avant Garde, one oak barrel of the sour brown and a splash of the Magi in the final blend. The final blend has flavors of sweet and sour with a pronounced musty nose. Unlike any other sour beer we have produced here at The Lost Abbey, this one has some very long term possibilities. It’s hard to believe just how much faith there is in Heaven and Hell considering nobody we know has ever sent pictures from the Pearly Gates or the Crossroads of Hell. Your jet-setting boss can’t claim to have a timeshare in Heaven. The food snob at work can’t peruse Yelp reviews to determine if the gluttonous all you can eat lobster buffet is mediocre or divine. And last we checked you can’t book a room at either place on Internet travel sites. Pretty much not a single person any of us knows can tell what Heaven and Hell are like. Yet they persist, with their fantastic imaginative descriptions and visions of banished heathens and the faithful being given their eternal rest. But not us. We here at The Lost Abbey figure our days are better spent on things other than worrying about our ever after. So each morning we get up and make beers for “Sinners and Saints Alike.” And when we fail to respire, we’ll let Heaven or Hell take us wherever the cosmos point us. Of course it doesn’t mean we’re not silently hoping they need great brewers in Heaven—especially ones with Hellish imaginations…

Pours a clear golden color. Aroma is aspirin and sour fruit. Taste is pretty sweet with a slightly dry finish. Decent.

Oaky. A woody sour, kinda plain otherwise. Mild, unremarkable flavor profile. Doesn't grab me in the way that others did. Still, this is a tasty American sour that should improve considerably with age.

Bottle... Mostly clear, deep amber pour with no head. The complex aroma consists of fuzzy fruits, oaken/cheesy funk and horse-blanket accompanied by a lesser note of toffee and a suggestion of leather. Medium-bodied with Key West carbonation. Tangy, oaken, peachy and apricot flavor. Finishes tangy with a moderate measure of yeasty bitterness. Very nice. Pulls up just short of being world class!

Bottle pours with a hazy opaque copper to gold-ish orange body that supports an off white head of foam. The aroma is full up crushed aspirin, lime peel acidic citrus and near vibrant vinegar. For the taste I’m getting a mix of acidic citrus notes, an island of vinegar goodness that somehow tempers the acidic to crushed aspirin tartness and then some lime peel like notes into the finish. Overall too acidic and tart to really enjoy and embrace.

Bottle. Murky deep yellow pour with a white head. Crisp and clean with mild sour and wet wood notes.

Bottle shared at the Santa Cruz boxset tasting. Huge brett aroma. Really awesome mix of lemon, chlorine, horseblanket. Flavor is a step down, woody and tart but not a lot else. Combine this aroma with Track 3’s flavor and you have a 100th percentile sour.

Orange colored pour. Light vinegar, stone fruit, funky notes, a bit of roasted nuts, some dank wet woodsy notes and old basement comes to mind.

Pours deep amber orange with a small white head. Nose is vinegar, lemon, rosemary, sage, vanilla, oak and cherry. Complex. Taste is even more so. An ever changing wave of sweet and sour with bitter dancing among them peeking out at random moments. Mouthfeel is soft at first, then goes crisp, body is light and the finish is huge. Wow.

Bottle. Pours with a mostly clear copper hued body with a lasting white head. Aromas are hugely vinous, wine barrel, sour. Very musty and earthy brett character, feels quite aged, complex and very rustic with lots of oak, cobwebs and earthy. Nearly a touch moldy. Flavors show an aged musty intensity, bretty funk, attic, cobwebs, old books, damp leaves. Good acidity and red wine. Which ever barrel has the cobweb light funk might be a good blending barrel for a gueuze project assuming its not too dark. Possibly a touch moldy tasting is a slight complaint though. Medium tannin, very lively carbonation, dry, already feels old.

At a Lost Abbey Track tasting. Poured a clear orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some sweet character with a touch of ripe peaches. Some sweet notes.
