COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new barleywine brewed specifically for this Track, the base was sent to freshly emptied cognac barrels and aged with sour cherries and orange zest. The Lost Abbey Ultimate Box Set has been the most ambitious beer project I have ever worked on. A series of small batch beers released once a month before being collectively offered at the end of the year has never been attempted as far as we can tell. So that alone makes this a pretty impressive feat. But for me, the coolest part of this Ultimate Box Set Release has been working with our artist, a professional designer and photographer to push the limits of beer-based design. And while we have created an amazing finished piece, none of this would have been possible were it not for the beer. So please take our not so subtle hint (a bonus track beer inspired by The Police and their “Message in a Bottle”) as a reminder that sometimes beer can be a vehicle for expression but only if there’s a genuine message to be found in that liquid. And given that you are holding an Ultimate Box Set bottle, we’re pretty sure you agree.

Pour a cloudy amber color with a tan head. Aroma has plenty of hard candy with the taste coming through as sweet with flowery notes. Thin bodied and pretty hot. A little harsh

The only true barleywine of the set. Orange zest, booze, tons of malt, disappointing overall. Meh.

Served in a Lost Abbey teku glass. Nose is faint sour cherry with hefty malt sweetness in the background. Caramel and a bit of booze and oak. Mild fruit and touch of cognac

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Cloudy, dark caramel pour with a small, fleeting, off-white head. The bouquet offers gobs of caramel, heaps of brown sugar and loads of fruity, vinous Cognac barrel. Full-bodied, thick and velvety with tickling carbonation. The flavor boasts gooey caramel, vinous port and earthy oak. Finishes bittersweet and surprisingly dry. World class effort!

Bottle, courtesy dfroms, thanks! Pour is copper, no head. Aroma is cherry kool-aid, cognac, molasses, light medicinal notes. Taste is sweet, more cherry kool-aid, strawberry, molasses. Palate is soft, slick, sweet finish. Pretty good.

Bottle pours with an amber-ish mahogany colored body that supports a micro thin white colored head of small bubbles. The aroma offers up a mix of apples, sweet malts and sugary molasses. The taste is full of sweet notes of apples, plums and molasses. Midway I get some chocolate notes and booziness joining in and taking this into the finish. This is a bit boozy but pretty darn tasty. Dig it!

375mL thanks to dfroms! Pours murky deep mahagony, weak head. Nose is fumey alcohol, cognac, vanilla, super thick caramel and toffee, strawberry milkshake. Taste is easy to drink, strawberry, orange milk chocolate, spiced apple, calvados, wooden spice. Mild pepper heat. Really nice. I hate how these track beers are actually good.

Bottle shared at the Santa Cruz boxset tasting. Fermented orange soda? Sherry notes, toffee malts. Weird.

Murky brownish pour. Orange, oak, cognac, brown sugar, light hop flavors are in the background. Good.
