3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a black shade with thin head, and light lacing. Aromas of cookie dough, fudge, currants, light vinegar, light peat wood, roasted almond, and light vinegar. Taste is most of the same. Finishes dry and slightly boozey. So rich and flavorful, wish I could have aged this beer or made sure it was super warm.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle bought through Drikkeriget. Pours murky blackish brown with a very small pale mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly malty, slightly fruity and heavy woody with roasted malts, dark bread, vanilla, lemon juice, grapes, hay, dry soil, leather, vinegar and lemon zest. Taste is sweet, very tiny sour, slightly bitter, malty and woody. Mouthfeel is round, astringent, tiny dry, boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet, very tiny sour and bitter with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, charred wood, grapes, ash and alcohol. Weird one. Sour stout that’s not really sour. Heavy boozy though and very rough around the edges even at this age.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
375ml bottle acquired via trade on BA. Shared with deyholla. Pours a deeper carmelized plum black hue, a decent haziness in the body with carmelized brownish glow on the edges. A frothy tannish head is firm, a thicker ringer and an audible pop and hiss when opened makes sense. Aromas are really fun, a firmer twangy tartness. Plum, red grapes and some grape candy appeal. Carmelized, biscuity and touches of subtle brown sugar. A bit of funk, tannic appeal and earthiness. Fuzzy red wine, vinegar and acidic jabs are a bit dark, vinous, sour plums and grape candy. Weird but kinda fun, the brett livens up, firmer, with an earthy leathery, woody, and tobacco soil appeal at times. Initial is firm bodied, the carmelized, earthy, and cocoa toasty appeal and base show a bit of edge. The firmer funk profile really runs the show here. So much of the fruit and sour, dark fruit and vinous appeal on the nose disappears as a fuzzy, funky, cobwebby and dry, almost spicy. Lots of dust, firm bretty profile runs the show. A bit of body holds up as the tannic and red wine appeal from the barrel only strengthens the funk’s case. A bit of residual dark malt character from the Hot Rocks gives presence on the back, a bit carmelized and sticky, providing a bit of body. But really a firmer warm spirit, potent driving funk character, oak synergy really run the show here and overall it just doesn’t mesh well most of the time. A pretty pour and while the flavors can be fun and the nose seems to preach something entirely different (that I’d really like to have tasted), this one is interesting overall but just doesn’t work for me necessarily. Some dates, residual dark malts, assertive funk profile. Ok.
