COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At a Glance The Beer: A fresh track, Track 8 is a spicy monster — A base of Judgment Day aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels then spiked with liberal additions of cinnamon stick and dried chili pepper. ABV: 13.7% Released: August 18, 2012 Liner Notes We’ve never released a Bourbon Barrel version of our Judgment Day. So we thought it might be interesting to take the base beer for Cuvee de Tomme age in first fill Bourbon Barrels and let mother nature take over. Of course, because this is a Rock and Roll inspired Box Set beer, we couldn’t just leave well enough alone. Upon sampling the base beer, it became apparent that the raisins used to brew the base beer were going to drive the flavor bus of this beer. The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well. At 13.70 ABV this beer has amazing depth of flavor and presents a unique drinking experience for consumers who may be seeking enlightenment on Judgment Day.

12.7oz bottle. Opened to a very loud pop. Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Woody, bourbon, vanilla, cinnamon, chilies, some roast, and some dark chocolates. Not overly cinnamon spice or overly chili hot (but both present. Overall alcohol content hidden.

Draft at Barrel Republic. Pours rich deep brown with a fizzy beige head. Smells like astringent alcohol, rich raisin, woody, earthy, lots of dark fruit. Tastes like sweet cinnamon sugar, strong booze, and dark fruits.

Bottle into a tulip. Fizzy as soda -- the bubbles pop away after just a few seconds. The liquid below is the darkest purple. Bourbon is easily the most pronounced aromatic, though a swirl does throw off smooth cocoa, vanilla bean, raisin and a dash of sharp cinnamon. Maybe a subtle teriyaki note as well. In the flavor, we get a little more of the dark fruits Judgment Day is known for, along with pronounced whiskey flavor and big, peppery alcohol. The problem is the carbonation level -- it’s extremely high, fizzing up with every small movement. Really get in the way of the enjoyment of this beer.

Bottle shared by AirForceHops, thanks Chris! Pours murky brown with a beige head. Aroma is big on bourbon, some chocolate, raisin, a touch of chili. Flavor is molasses and chocolate and chili and cinnamon. Moderately sweet cinnamon on the finish.

375 thanks to BOLTZ7555, thanks Jason! Deep brown color with low Co2. Aroma is nice subtle bourbon, spiced holiday cake and indeed raisins. Some sugar. Flavor is similar to a liquid raisin cookie the brewer was shooting for. The cinnamon and chili heat comes through right after the end of the sip. The alcohol flavor is here only in the way of warming sensation with the mild spicy kick. Body is fuller and chewy. I really like it... Real nice brew.

Nice pop of the cork on this one. 375ML thanks AirForceHops for sharing and enjoyed in a snifter slightly child. Pours thick with a raisin colored reddish body, not head to speak of but had some carbonation. Nose is very herbal with some holiday cakes and cookies, cinnamon and egg nog and other dark fruits. Very thick and viscous this has a lot of body, nice carbonation mouthfeel. The cinnamon and raisin and whiskey are hugely dominant with a lot of sweet burnt caramelized sugar taste and sweet malts. Cherry, raisin, peach and nutmeg as well. There’s a ton of flavor here. It still burns a little after 2 years in the bottle. I’d like a bit less spice but maybe as the weather drops, this is a nice warming beer.

Bottle at RBSDG at the Dad Pad. Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Coconut on the nose, cocoa and nutty malt. Medium bodied, roast and more coconut, cocoa, chocolate with some faint spicy notes. More nutty coconut, chile and cocoa. Very interesting, warm and toasty. Liked this a bit.

Bottle courtesy of GT2. Pours dark deep brown with a small goldenish beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace but some nice looking legs on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and spicy with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, alcohol, cinnamon, smoked chili, raisins and soil. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, malty and spicy with sweet dark bread, toffee, caramel, vanilla fudge, charred wood, toasted coconut, cinnamon, smoke chilis, cocoa powder, bourbon alcohol, raisons and soil. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, tiny spicy astringent, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet, tiny bitter, malty and boozy with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, toasted coconut, cinnamon, raisins and soil. Wow! I didn’t expect this too be as good and balanced as it it. Quite boozy but it works…

375mL bottle, courtesy of Prufrockstar (thanks a lot, Chris), pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Nose brings out complex notes of bourbon, cinnamon, light chili, and dark fruits. Flavour is extremely complex, with loads of coconut (?!) upfront, somehow, with dark fruits, cinnamon and a very small hint of chili. It’s surprising how coconut-y this is. Complex and though there is alcohol, it’s well-hidden. Excellent.
