COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
34% ale brewed with honey, raisins and rosemary and aged in bourbon barrels 33% ale aged in bourbon barrels 33% ale with raisins and aged in wine barrels
In July of 2009, the Matts and a couple of the guys flew down from Seattle to tour our hallowed halls in San Marcos, CA. In our barrel room they were drawn to brandy barrels of Angel’s Share, port barrels of Serpent’s Stout and red wine barrels of Gift of the Magi with brett. There were others, but as with all blends, it’s best to leave some things to the imagination (or the taste buds for that matter).

Bottle thanks to Ben which was shared this with others. Poured a cloudy dark amber with a light brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had notes of raisins, tart fruits and just a bit of honey and wine. Flavor was similar with raisins leading in to quite tart fruits with a slight honey backing.

Bottle shared by heyholla. Thanks! Bottle pours dark red color with off white head. Aroma is green apple, tart, acidic, and sour. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is more tart, funky, dark fruit, and finishes tart. A really good brew. Thanks!

Bottle thank to Richlikebeer. Pours a reddish brown color with a nice head to it. Has a smell of wood, wine, and some sourness in there as well. Taste is more or less the same. I really enjoyed this one.

Red brown color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, vanilla, wood, wild yeast, red wine, roast, leather, and light alcohol. Taste of grapes, tart cherries, wood, vanilla little bit of roast, faint spices, and a sour, lightly acidic finish with a touch of alcohol at the very end.

Bottle, at Lost Abbey. Pours super fizzy, lacy foam. Color is almost opaque brown-red. Aroma is only faintly of dark cherries, lightly sour. Taste is awesome of pie cherries, sour apples, dark fruit, plums, and maybe just a touch of raisin. Awesome stuff, especially for a dark sour.

Bottle shared with gorditoabd. Pours a dark brown with a massive amount of tan head and aromas of pie cherries, brown sugar, oak and wood. Flavor is a wonderful mix of cherries, malt vinegar tartness, a little wood, not quite ripe plums and a hint of dark sugar from time to time. This is smooth on the palate and leaves a lovely sour aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2011 750ml bottled shared at dlday 2010 and i wish i had more of a recollection on this one.... poured a slightly transparent caramel brown with a thin tan head... aroma was slightly acidic with some cherry, vinegar, vinous notes, and a bit of chocolate from serpent’s stout... flavors weren’t too distinct in any way. a bit tart, a tad sweet and a nice combination of flavors lended from the blend of base brews. body was smooth with light carbonation. must try this one again in a more subdued setting.

Finaly got a chance to retaste this.... appearance pretty much the same. sharp yet semi-earthy vinegar and sour cherry , some wood aging for sure comes through adding some balance.... flavors are sharp with acidity yet dry while adding notes of sour cherry, wood, and vinegar aspects. completely sour and assertive to that regard. carbonation is high with a medium body.

Bottle: The aroma consists of sour cherries, cola, and faint vinegar. It pours an orangish-orange with a small off-white head. The flavor starts with sour cherry, cola, and a hint of chocolate. The finish has some light vinegar and a touch of oak. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Exploding carbonation. Roasting, lightly lactic, lots of cola and balsamic vinegar. Taste is lightly sweet, lightly sour, but more slanted towards acetic acid, lots of cherry, tons of toffee and a boatload of cola.
