4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Crystal clear golden color with a soft, pillowy white head with great retention. A great deal of effervescence in this one. Some lemon and citrus in the nose along with some funky cheese and a bit of acetic acid providing some sharpness. Lemon, hay, clove and pineapple are noticed on the tongue as well as some buttery notes. Fairly dry with plenty of carbonation; this one drinks quite well. For the price of admission, I’ll take another beer, but this is definitely good.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle: 2013. Murky; almost fully opaque with a vibrant, golden-orange color. Creamy, foamy, eggshell head wafts softly atop the radiant brew. Beautiful aroma of sour lemon, yogurt, lactic & lightly acetic acid, sweet-tart candy, tart citrus, white grape, slightly vinous oak, & some back-end helpings of moderate funk; musty hay, damp cheesecloth, & some sweaty barnyard notes. The flavor is brilliantly acidic & tart, but not so over the top that it becomes a burden to drink. Vinous white wine grape skins, rich woody oak, lemon & bursting citrus flesh, sour lacto with a mild yogurty tone, & a modest funky character sifting throughout. Lingering notes of wet cork, cellar floor, lightly lactic lemon, white grape, & dry wood. Sharp & crisp mouth feel. This beer is fantastic; the hype is pretty much warranted for this. Wonderfully complex & pleasantly sour without inducing any ulcers or GERD which goes miles for drinkability.

Bottles poured at toronado anniversary. Shared a 08,12, and 13. 12 was my favorite. Poured a nice gold color with small fizzy white head. Smell is slight lemony and sour. Taste is incredibly clean and tart. Delicious and easy to drink. Best unfruited sour I've had

750 ml bottle is 2007 vintage shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad! Pours a hazy golden orange color with a small ring of bubbles clinging to the glass. Aroma is lemon citrus, barnyard funk, and light oak notes. Flavor is very complex: grapefruit and lemon citrusy sourness, puckering, balanced and quenching. Alcohol is well masked, thin to medium bodied, delicious. From notes 1/23/10 (Geist Dark Lord tasting)

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2008 Bottle at Toronado Pub, San Diego. Appearance is light golden peach. Aroma is mild sour with no real funk. Taste is low carbonation - close to perfection with the profile: very smooth, good level of acid, mild oaky quality. This IS NOT a fruit sour, just mild woodiness and sour. FInish is very tangy. Overall, a great sour - very well balanced and straight up Maybe nothing on the lambics, but very well done. Gets better as you attune to the lack of fruit and funk.

750 ml bottle
I was not expecting to get to try this despite visiting Toronado as it can be hard to get. When the wait staff asked me as I was closing the tab if I wanted a bottle it took exactly three seconds to say ’Yes’. I am glad too - this is a world class sour that put even the Almanac Bourbon Barrel Peche to shame.
Aroma / Appearance - A golden body shimmers with life and light peachy edges. Lemons, oak, and a lingering tartness give this an edge a bit stronger than the average sour but without being vinegary. it almost could be mistaken for a gueuze.
Flavor / Palate - Oak and lemon lightly play across the tongue. The tartness grows until crashing into sour waves on the back of the throat. Almost like a dry champagne it sparkles the entire time. This is one of those beers that everyone should get a chance to try and proves that Lost Abbey is still on top of their game.
