American hopped saison.

Editor’s note: The 2009+ versions are spiked with Brett at bottling. Bottles from 2009 are marked as such, although 2010 and 2011 bottles appear to not note the vintage on the label, but might be printed on the neck or base.

75cl bottle served in a pint glass. Light straw colour with a massive white head. Aroma is very hoppy and funky. Taste is juicy hops and initially quite a severe sharpness which disappears after a while of breathing. A little watery for a Lost Abbey beer and a massive disappointment to me given the wonderful Avantgarde and my love of American hoppy beers - luckily for me the Brett is not very evident however, some people may be disappointed by this.. This just falls a little flat and I expected much more from this brewery.

Tap at Apex for Gigantic and Friends. A: Cloudy gold, foamy white head. N: Green apple, peppercorns, esters, funk, lemon rind, some cracker, good amount of funk. Attics and barnyards. T: Funk, sweet, and a little bitter. M: Medium body, touch oily, some alcohol, creamy carbonation. O: One of the best American saisons I have had. Peppery, estery, and funky. I would like try this next to something like Anna; I think it would be superior.

750 ml bottle from Twin Oaks Market. Abv is 8.0%. Pours an attractive orange-gold with a nice head of foam that leaves thick lacing. Aroma is peppery spices, lemon peel, grass, straw, light caramel. bread, nutty yeast, Belgian funk, bubblegum. Has a complex flavor, well balanced with sweet, bitter, and sour elements. Very spicy and tart, maybe a little overhopped, but it works overall. Nice change of pace, would repeat.
