3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Clear blond, headless pour. Low carbonation going on in the glass. Aroma has some granny smith apples, Brett and other yeasty elements.. Quite some Belgian influences as well. Flavor is not as I’d expected it to be after smelling the aroma. It is quite flowery, slightly sour with a sweeter finish. Resins and a yeasty base. Very interesting to see what 4 years of aging does whit a bretted saison. Nice!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
750ml at home. Vintage 2012. Need a wine opener to remove the crumbly cork. Pours a clear pale yellow, enormous frothy head, steady stream of carbo rising from the bottom of the glass. The aroma is apple, pear, lime, band aid, funky citrusy Brett. The high carbo gives this a smooth, creamy palate. Tastes of fruit, spice, standard saison yeast and soft, restrained Brett, which contributes leather, funk, and herbal grassiness. The finish is dry, light, complex, and refreshing.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2012 Vintage. Pours pale golden yellow with a large soapy white head. Smells like hay with a bit of citrus and solid barnyard funkiness. Taste is a bit dry with some mild bitter citrus and hay funk and a subtle touch of sweetness behind it all for balance. Medium-bodied with a crisp texture and active mouth-carbonation, Lost Abbey Carnevale finishes wtih a drying, almost woody sensation.
