COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American hopped saison.

Editor’s note: The 2009+ versions are spiked with Brett at bottling. Bottles from 2009 are marked as such, although 2010 and 2011 bottles appear to not note the vintage on the label, but might be printed on the neck or base.

Bottle. The pour was a hazy yellow with a huge (3-4 finger) white pillowy head that lasted a little while, receding to a large puddle and collar of residue, which had good spotty lacing. The aroma was of light grain and cereal malts, herbal hops and a funky Brett yeast with notes of citrus (orange and lemon), and a hint of spice (coriander and clove). The taste was a little sweet and a tad sour with a hint of citrus at first and then became rather hoppy with a slight bitter lemon peel presence and a mild peppery spice ending. The flavor lasted an average time proceeding the swallow, with a hoppy slightly sour peppery taste left to settle on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was just beyond light in body with a smooth dry texture and a prickly carbonation. Overall a refreshingly different Saison, with a nice sour spicy taste that had an outstanding blending with the hops...

Bottle shared with rickfifty. Hazy orange to golden. Big bubbly and frothy white head. Yeast, pepper, some alcohol, esters, some brett and clove nose. Some orange. Lots of carbonation. Low on taste and flavour. Some balanced, bitter, sweet and sourness. Mostly sweet. Medium body. A bit sticky. Pineapple, fruit, yeast, some sugar and candi sugar flavour. Warming, peppery ending. Best before may 2015 - maybe it would’ve been better a bit more fresh.

Corked and caged 25.4oz, VINTAGE 2012. Nose is fruity and funky Brett, spicy and bright Saison yeast, touch of pepper, green grape skins, light acetic [though only in the nose]. Clear golden very effervescent, dense/tight Orvallish white head. Taste dry and very Brett-forward, probably on equal footing with the saison. Golden malt, very crisp fullish body, pepper, a touch rubbery but that’s only for a few milliseconds. Smooth wooden/cork character (though not ’corked’). Gently warming as if 8-9% abv, light-medium bitterness with a lingering fullness of hops. Still very vibrant and strong in flavor, great against food.
