vyvvy (1582), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 19, 2008 Thanks to the STL guys for sharing this Lost Abbey with me. Pours copper / orange with a small off-white head. The aroma is spicy and earthy with lightly toasted malt and dry-ish caramel. Medium / light body with lots of graininess and some underlying tingly carbonation. The flavor starts off lightly sweet then it dries out quickly with lots of spices (cloves, cinnamon, pepper). The graininess I like to see in saisons is here as well along with some light caramel malt. The finish is peppery along with spicy and piny hops showing. This is a very nice American version of a saison.
robforbes (641), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 pours a clear yellow-oranage with a large egg-shell head, good lacing.
smell is faint, pear, apple, yeast, spice, citrus.
taste is watery, sweet, apple, pear, some spice, somewhat dry and bitter in the end. el_caballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 a bit dissapionting for me. the citrusy flavor is a bit unpleasant lemon rind, i enjoy the peppery finish but this beer just never came together for me BlackDonald (724), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jul 16, 2008 This is a beautiful food pairing beer, just lightens up my Halibut and Prawns. A beautiful hazy golden honey colored pour, accented by some very light and delicate lacing. Followed by a yeasty aroma of light fruits such as pears and peaches, with a light hint of sour funk, coriander and citrus. The maltiness ranges from biscuity to a bittersweet cookie dough. Zesty mouthfeel with an adamant spiciness throughout. Finishes with an herbal eucalyptus menthol quality. A lovely lip - numbing experience. BuckeyeBoy (1065), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle Pours out a cloudy straw topped with a small head. Aromas of citrus and spice. Tast of yeast, pepper, clove, and a little apple. A very tasty Saison. Thanks Jake snoot (262), Anaheim, California, USA Jul 13, 2008 Pours a hazy light gold, small head with some very fine lacing. Wasn’t much force behind the cork when I opened it. Banana dominates the nose, with a bit sweetness and a touch of clove. Not as much yeast in the nose as I’d expect from a Saison. Little bit of a funky taste, starts off with some citrus and then finishes with a bit of pepper. Undercarbonated, and not as dry in the finish as I’d like.
