Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey. A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with. One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

Clear dark brown colour, dissipating white head. Aroma of cherry, caramel, raisins, mocha, light vanilla. Sweet flavour, light sour note, mocha, cherry, brown sugar, light bourbon. Sweet finish, raisins, amarena cherries, hint of nail polish.

One of the flagships of Lost Abbey, a complex, Belgian-inspired ale (the term ’cuvée" already hints that) matured on wine and bourbon barrels, with added sour cherries and wild yeasts. Very thin and pale beige head, requiring some forcing to develop and breaking open in instants, eventually disappearing altogether; colour a very dark brownish purple, like an old port wine, hazy to cloudy, with pale protein flakes at the bottom after adding the deposit. Strong and expectedly very complex aroma of sour cherries, red wine vinegar, cranberries, vanilla, oaky tannins, hint of bourbon, caramel, dusty cellar, varnish but not disturbingly so, sour yoghurt, balsamic vinegar, raisins, figs in ’jenever’, cardboard, tomato concentrate, almond. Complex estery fruitiness in the onset, sour cherries and berries, lemony acidity even drying the mouth, lactic acidity as well, balsamic vinegar, woody tannins coming up quickly over a smooth caramelly maltiness, somewhat dusty, with increasing drying tartness in the finish, as well as increasing woodiness and a hint of warming, port wine- and bourbon-like alcohol, very vinous, with some lingering malt sweetness, truly mouth watering. The sour, dry fruitiness and tannins remain in the mouth long after you’ve taken your last sip. This is righteously a classic, a wonderfully complex, woody and fruity sour, which is clearly linked to the Flemish ’oud bruin’ tradition, but in a ’pimped’ kind of way. Noble, warming, vinous and extremely appetizing: a must if you are into sour beer types. This kind of ’gastronomic’ beers are on a par with any great wine, if you ask me.

Flaska@NK Ölbar. Mörkt brun vätska. Stor och tydlig doft av röda bär och mörkt vattendränkt ek. Lätt syrlig smak med fatlagringston. Ett bra replikeringsförsök av det belgiska originalet men ändå långt ifrån.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2015 33cl bottle. Pours dark red brown with no head. Pediococcus, cherry, oak.. some co2. Taste is astringent sour cranberry with hints of dates, raisins, cherry, oak and vanilla aftertaste. Lovely burn on the palate, flavours linger on. Mmm cherry oak stamina cuvee, this Cuvee de Tomme.

On tap at the Red Hot. Hazy dark brown. THick tan head. Scent is a strong sour one. Taste is nice and sour. , raisin, vanilla. Super smooth. Super tasty.

On tap at a place in Santa Rosa. Nice brownish red pour. Nice flavor and aroma of sour cherries. Missed this guy being on tap at Lost Abbey a few years back. Glad to have gotten to finally try it.

Draught @ Mikkeller Bar, SF. Red-brown, beige head. Cherry nose. Huge in flavour; tart, cherry, some malt, burnt sugar. Very layered. Great balance for a wild sour. Hides ABV well... Lovely.

De color marrón oscuro con algún destello rojizo. Prácticamente sin espuma y por tanto sin carbonatación. Aroma a tarta de cerezas y algo de vainilla. Más ligeramente barrica y levadura. En boca aparece el ácido de la cerezas y cierto recuerdo a vino blanco. El alcohol se nota en el estómago. Gran cerveza pero con un precio prohibitivo.
