4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
A in ny book. It has been a Lost Abbey holiday season and this has been one of the best. Out if this world taste - rich, complex, with a unique combo of brandy and bourbon aging. Price point high but worth the exoerience at 12.5 abv.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sampled in a small bomber. Aged probably two years. A really high power brew with big time malts. Served at room temperature which really opened up this brew.

12oz bottle split with friends at a tasting. You can definitely smell the barrel aging, but it does not come through (hot wise) in the taste. Great beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (375 ml) from Systembolaget. Black with small beige head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee, chocolate, tar and salmiak. Clear barrel cognac notes, but not obtrusive. Full bodied, almost flat. Semi sweet, medium bitterness.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Aged bottle. Black with minimal head. Boozy and warming alcohol presence. Tasted next to a GI BCBS 2013 and found many similarities. This had the brandy notes which were excellent. Very strong showing here.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
No audible pop at corking. Pours like spent oil - inky black-brown with heavy viscosity and little sign of carbonation. Lots of prune, caramel, bourbon and brandy, raisin, figs, and hints of cinnamon sugar in this one. Really pretty nose. Profoundly rich flavored beer: caramel, tawny, bitterness (surprised), nougat, chocolate - light, bourbon, figs, sugar and slight booze. Quite still on the mouthfeel, a slight effervescence. Warm and dry finish with a long standing flavor residual.
I’m a bit torn here. The smell and flavor of the beer are top notch, but the look and mouthfeel are far from superior. I wish the beer was just slightly cabonated - previous bottles I’ve had were.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from my trip to Cali. Corked and caged. A pricey $16.99 for 12.7 oz but happy to try at least once. Pours a deep black color with a very small brown late-forming head, looks pretty thick and viscous. Sweet vanilla, brandy, chocolate, anise, caramel on the nose. Flavor is a seamless blend of chocolate, vanilla, brandy, licorice. Sweet brandy, and satisfying, with beautiful vanilla oak barrel notes. Hearty and velvety thick with low but very adequate carbonation. Warming but not any sharp alcohol at all. One of the best BA imperial stouts I have had, up there with Parabola and Black Note. Similar to those two but with a bit more caramel and dark fruit. Yum and more yum. This is really among the best of them.
