Commercial Description:
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

On tap at Papago. Pours a cloudy gold with a snow white head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is floral hops, yeast and spice. Taste is floral hops, peach, spicy yeast and light citrus hops in the finish. Medium creamy mouth feel. Good stuff.

Hazy burnished orange-golden beer with a creamy white head. Aroma is fairly unusual. A bit of herbal hoppiness. Light floral and a touch woody. There is a fairly dank yeastiness. Sort of herbal and hoppy but in a kind on indistinct way. Lingering moderate bitterness. A touch of lightly fruity/grassy flavour on the back. A bit of spice and lingering hoppiness. Meh... it’s okay, but nothing in here really works for me.

Bottle, Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia with Traci, Fin & Loz. Golden, nice white head with glass-coating lace. Lemon flower nose, yeasty and spring-like. Bright lemon citrus hop flavor, light sweet malt. Refreshing, chock full of flavor. Fin noted sort of a farmhouse quality to this, and that sums up pretty well the underlying appeal of this beer. Fun to get that kind of rustic charm in an American beer.

Not what I expected. Pours a dark hazy yellow with an off-white head. Nose is yeast, citrus, straw, pepper, and barnyard. Flavor is yeast, pepper, and citrus. A bit heavy in the mouth, the yeast hangs around with peppery bitterness. It straddles the line between golden, saison, and tripel with characteristics of all.
