Commercial Description:
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

Bottle from Binny’s Lakeview. Nose is nice and spicy hops, some white fruits and yeast. Pours a nice gold with a little cloudiness. Taste is quite bitter and obviously very well hopped. Biscuits and hops, finishes quite dry and with no regrets. Could make this an everyday drinker. Very nice.

Tasting @ Binnys. Slightly hazy amber, very nice rocky white foam, less than spectacular retention, very nice lacing. Aroma is a little bit of pear, with some musty yeast and hop notes. Flavor is bone dry, not in good way, over the top bitterness and not very much in the malt category at all. The taste is sweet, tart and dry. I get sweet malts with hints of wheat as well as tart tones of lemon and a hint of astringency. Not what I expected.

Completely opaque, with sheets of layered lacing down the side as the beer drains. Almost cardboard in color, with a lively orange tint, kind of like creamy peanut butter, and quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a beer before. Yeasty, sweet pear aroma. Sweet apple flavor, with a bitter/sour aftertaste of earthy grains. Yummy.
