Commercial Description:
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

750 ml bottle. Yeasty spicey aroma that wasn’t over spice for me on the nose. Murky golden body with white head and good lacing. Chalk and medium sweet candy with some lemon and spice mix. Well blended I thought anyway. Smooth on palate good brew

Bottle from Monk’s, Philly. Nice golden amber color with good head. Has characteristics of Belgian, English and American Ales. The yeasty nature going on in the background is clearly Belgian, while the grapefruit hops are American, and the pale malt and grassyiness seem English. Not overdone.

Orange to amber in color with a decent white head. Sweet and fruity in the smell. Taste is sweet, fruity, apricots coming through the most. Good but not great.

Sweet mild with a low fruitiness. Golden color with light head; a little cloudy. Very mild taste with minimal sweetness. Malty but very balanced and mellow. Exceptionally easy to drink. Sweet with no noticable astringent flavors or harsh textures. Very easy to drink. Very good. A favorite of mine.

bottle. Pours a light golden amber color, decent inch head bubbles up quick then fades to a decent layer/ring. Aromas are interesting... funky sweet light malts, a hefty dose of sticky floral hops. Flavors start with a full but non-aggressive bunch of hops- mostly cut flowers and some light citrus, with some light peppery notes. Some lightly sweet malts and fruity esters provide nice balance. Light and crisp on the palate, smooth finish with some lingering bitterness.

Bottle courtesy of I think Quake1028. Pours a clear golden with a one finger white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrus, sweet pilsner malt, and floral hops. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and a dry crisp finish. Very good.

Wow first thing that hits me is a light hint apple. As a matter of fact carve out an apple and stuff it with hops, that pretty much what this beer tastes like.

I liked how this beer is essentially a hop bomb, but just doesn’t come across that way. Perhaps it’s the label. That’s it. The label, showing a calm, pastoral setting, lacks that bravado one sees on the labels of super-hopped beers and the effect is to make me study the nuances of this fascinating brew. This has all of the citrus fruit elements that I would expect, but there is some really nice light malt and yeast flavors which lift this above the ordinary hop monster. Very good stuff.
