brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 5, 2008 Pours clear gold, with a slight chill haze. A generous white head rises to the brim, and slowly fades to an opaque surface coating of medium to fine bubbles.
Aromatics lead off with minerally and grassy overtones. Barely a trace of malt and mildly spicey hops. A hint of lemon oil and white pepper round out the nose with an afterthought of dry hay.
Mouthfeel is on the full side of medium, creamy and well carbonated.
Pallet is dry and bitter, with a faint, crisp, malt backbone and more spicy hopping than promised.
A gypsum-like chaulkiness firms up the bitterness that lingers and lingers.
Mildly citrusy and pretty straightforward as far as the yeast tells.
Finishes bone dry and bitter.
Not a lot of hubbub going on in this brew, I was hoping for more hops, alcohol, and funk. The bitterness lingers almost to the point of being a detraction without more hop flavor or funk to back it up.
StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 25, 2008 Transparent, magnifying and bubble filled straw yellow. A sustained soda head floats on top. A signature honey biscuit with marigold pollination reaches the nose. Lemon seltzer water, orange rind and daffodils provide an in-sync, artistically simple - yet elegant - aroma. Effervescence shines as the clean, hoppy treat gives a cleansing and dry palate swipe. Buttered vanilla and lemon shards get smoothed over honey baguettes. A doughy biscuit trait gets bought out by biscotti for a drier edge. White rose blossoms dipped in honey and a hoppy, herbal cotton and tangerine take are well met with the dry, medium bodied and amply carbonated concoction. Lemon seltzer and lilac baguettes take the final bow. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned! BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 22, 2008 Updated: Dec 14, 2008Another bottle thanks to mreusch. Poured a clear golden color with some rising bubbles and a thick white head that left decent lacing. Slightly funky nose with spices with a bit of yeast and hops on the nose. Slightly funky malt flavor leads into a yeasty barnyard flavor and finishes with a light, crisp hop finish. Nice carbonation. Pretty solid Belgian. Thanks Matt, I appreciate it. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Feb 21, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Bu11zeye: Poured a deep clear golden color ale with a nice big foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light brett with some Saaz hops. Taste is a mix between what appears to be light brett notes with some nice Belgian-type malt a dry noble hops finish. Medium body with some good carbonation. While I enjoyed that beer I have to admit that I will stick with DDC Dernière Volonté when I feel in need of an hoppy Belgian ale. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Feb 17, 2008 Hazy dark straw colour. Slightly barny, baguettey nose with ample continental hop goodness. Sweetish pale malts on the palate with a bitter, earthy, yeasty, dusty, bready character. Really pleasurable drinking. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Feb 12, 2008 Sample Hotshots Feb Indy tasting - Aroma is very yeasty with straw and Euro hops. Pours cloudy gold with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor is fresh hay, dusty cotton, subtle citrus hops, pale malts and yeasty bread dough. Palate is creamy, smooth and a little tart. Simplistic and refreshing, but not outstanding. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 11, 2008 C&C 750. Some dried crusties around the cork, it weeped a bit at some point. Beer seems fine though, audible pop as the cork exits. Pours into my Karmeliet glass a clear gold with a big, foamy off white head. Sweet sugar cookie and orange nose, a bit yeasty. Flavor is more bitter than expected, a tangy orange/grapefruit, with a bit of grass and dust. Body is fairly well carbonated, on the light side of medium. Not bad. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 3, 2008 a really good, light yet hoppy, belgian ale; very basic ale, a lot of yeast sediment; mellow, a bit and so just a bit... classic belgian? interesting, and so simple...
