nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Nice golden color with a white head. Aroma of mellow hops , yeast and a little spice. Some slight carbonation. Light in flavor with a short lasting finish. tomciccateri (496), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Jan 27, 2008 Bottle - pours a nearly clear gold color with a thin white head. Light body, low carbonation, mellow malty flavor with mild hop flavor and bitterness. Soft mouthfeel Late citrusy hop character with bitter accent. Nice yeast complexity, but not overpowering. A very nice blonde ale. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 26, 2008 tap at the brewery - Pours hazy golden with a thin, lasting head. It has a slightly fruity smelling yeast aroma with some mild hops and malt. The flavor is of bread like malt and has a high amount of hops for a Belgian ale. Lively on the palate, it has a nice enough flavor though not much complexity. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Jan 25, 2008 750 ML Bottle-trade w/snojerk321. Pours a cloudy golden color w/almost no head. Spiced Belgian Aroma. Has quite a bit of hop bite for a Belgian, much more than I prefer. Has flovors of spice, yeast, & citrus as well, but the hops really drowned it out. Very dry; no trace at all of the type of sweetness one typically expects from a quality Belgian. Somewhat wheatlike. My first sample from this highly hyped west coast brewery, I sure they have some much better stuff than this. Solid brew, not spectacular. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 18, 2008 Hazy, hay under the sunshine colour. The head is white, healthy and lasting. Appealing yeasty nose, all in delicacy, vaguely fruity, slightly spicy. Malts are not very forward though they procure enough textured softness. Hop, on the other hand, are quite vigorous, though noble. Grassy and highly floral, almost earthy, perhaps more woody. They have obvious tannic characteristics to them, bordering astringent at times, but not going too far. The associated dryness is welcome, cutting any false impressions of excess sweetness we may have. Medium-bodied, easily quaffable. Not terribly complex, but refreshing and counting on enough character from the yeast. Also quite fresh. It is good stuff, but I can’t see myself shelling out 10$ a bottle when I can get Saison Dupont at half that price. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 15, 2008 8th Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines. Pours clear yellow with a small, frothy, white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, hay, straw), average hops (flowers, grass), average yeast (horse blanket, barnyard) with notes of grapes and coriander. Light bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 14, 2008 Updated: Aug 11, 2008My Bottom Line:
Thyme-like herbal hop aromatics dovetail into the subtly doughy Belgian yeast before careful honeyed maltiness hands you to a sedentary wooden hop bitterness and dryness. This svelte and quenching Belgian-style Blond Ale is as professionally crafted and satisfying as any other Lost Abbey beer.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A foam cumulus slowly thins out over the misty honeyed gold.
-The finishing bitter/dry tandem is reminiscent of some tea leaves.
-A biscuity malt touch is felt towards the end.
-A semi-watery passage increases drinkability from the get-go.
Bottles. thornecb (1737), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Jan 13, 2008 Pours gold into a tulip. Fluffy white head slowly recedes leaving spot lacing to skim surface. Apricot and resin aromas. Upfront crisp caramel with a dry, sharp hop finish.
