Itís an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. Itís always been a simple life Ė the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldnít sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we werenít sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

Pale yellow, yeast bomb, esters phenolic rules the beer. Not bad. Just a tad to one dimensional. Still good, still enjoyed it. I tend to go for the more powerful Belgians. But still try this one.

Itís almost a burnt aroma that comes from the cloudy orange beer. Citrus and spice from Belgium yeast. Medium body finishes with pepper and anise. Not the best Lost Abbey has to offer but still enjoyable.

Bottle (750 ml). Hazy golden/orange with a medium off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is of Belgian yeast, honeyed malt, fruits and herbal/floral notes. Taste is slightly sweet with honeyed malt, yeast, herbal/floral presence and a light spicy finish. Medium body. Good carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Good and easily drinkable Belgian Ale. A tad too heavy for my liking, but the balance isnít bad either and itís quite tasty.
