COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a big fluffy white head. Pretty hoppy aroma with a good amount of citrus fruit. Smells kind of like a pale ale. The taste is very subtle and hoppy. Pretty simple. Pretty refreshing and tasty though. Get pretty big hops with some fruit backing. Slightly bitter, but the aftertaste is almost a little sweet. Not overly exciting, but nice.

Bottle from bistro club, have two more cellaring from the Lost Abbey Anniversary Party. Great golden / brass color on the pour, with a bubbly white head that fades to a thin film for the remainder of the glass. Aroma is mostly pear, hops, and Belgian spice. Some hint of yeast in the aroma. Flavor is not very complex, pretty straightforward and simple, but not depressing. Crisp and hoppy, with a touch of sourness in the finish. A very refreshing brew, this would be killer for lounging on a porch on a hot summer’s day.

Sweet corn and apples on the nose. Pours a hazy amber with a thin white head. Oh man, the flavor is a surprise. Hoppy, hints of spices, dry, and sweet. I really love hoppy belgian styles, the best of both worlds. A terrific beer to drink, i wish i could get this all the time.

Bottle from the MJRBC. Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of sage, noble hops and yogurt. Tastes of sugar and lots of flavorful hops, but not a whole heck of a lot going on otherwise.

Tap @ brewery: Clear golden with decent lacing. Aroma is very hoppy for the style with citric fruity hops. Maybe some spicing here as well, but mostly hops. Belgian yeast and caramel as well. Medium bodied and cool for the style, like a Belgian IPA.

Bottle @ my brothers (Vac) & Abby’s (zug4abby) house warming party. Poured a golden color with an off-white head. Floral aroma with a little citrus and fruits in the background. The flavor is much the same with floral and light fruits but also a mild bitterness. Light to medium body, slightly higher carbonation than expected and dry.

750 ml bottle. Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club selection. Golden amber in color, slightly hazy with a thick and lingering off white head. Lots of fruit in the nose: apples, pears, and some subtle citrus. More hoppy in aroma than you average Belgian Ale. Medium in body with full carbonation and a real smoothness on the tongue. A very nice beer.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2008 750ml. pours hazy golden with foamy white head. nose is earthy, mothy, slightly anti-septic, coriander, yeasty, pear, and diacetyl. flavor is better, refreshingly crisp and dry, caramel malts laid out on spritzy light fruits, pear, lemon, dry apple, yeasty, and cookie. diacetyl too. pretty tasty stuff. carbination is lively and mouthfeel is full. finish is very dry. a tasty refreshing beer.3.5

2008, fresh bottle, very tasty noble hopped single with lots of floral and spicy hop notes, this beer has improved since its first bottling.3.8.

750 ml bottle thanks to drewbeerme. Pours a bright orange color with a white head. Nose is citrus, yeast, spice, and florals. Malty flavors lots of yeast spice and florals with a grassy bitterness that finishes dry. Pretty decent but nothing to special for lost abbey.

On tap @ Lost Abbey: Apparently, according to the guys at the brewery, this recipe is based loosely on Westy blond. Light, golden color and a nice spicy aroma. Flavor is smooth and mild with a nice hoppy flavor. The hoppiness is interesting because it comes from a euro hop rather than an American hop variety. Pretty damn nice beer. An everyday, warm weather beer. I shall be drinking many of these this summer.
