It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

750 mL bottle purchased from Monument Wine and Liquors. Orangey, citric, peachy, bubble gummy, floral aroma. Big time bubble gum. Very sweet and different. Moderately hazy copper orange body with a frothy, rocky vanilla colored head that leaves attractive lacing. Citrus, spiced, hoppy start. Rather orange0like and dry. Wheat-like maltiness is present in the middle with a hoppy, piney, dry finish. A nice beer that I would call a Belgian IPA.

Pours a deep gold with a white head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy! Dough, pepper, and spruce (or some sort of herb) also in the nose. Tastes of bread, wood, dirt and pine while it finishes fairly bitter and very dry. Light bodied mouthfeel, but creamy enough to be pleasing. Moderate carbonation. Good stuff, a summer beer that keeps me interested.

Bottle. French’s mustard yellow coloring. Subtle. Musty. Grassy. Buttery bread in taste and aroma. Clean, even exhale. OK - but I’ve had a few too many superior Belgian’s today to rate this more favorably. Sampled @ BCTC 2007

Big huge thanks to DirtyMartini for sending this gem!! Bottle. Pour hazy straw/amber color with a rather sizeable white head, and a ton of lacing. Aroma is grassy, floral hops, grapefruit, vineous notes. Flavor is refreshing grapefruit, grains, yeast, grass, pepper, citrus. Palate is medium bodied, medium to high carbonation, finishes bitter, almost IPA like. Wonderful brew, maybe it was the 95° weather that made this so refreshing, but whatever it was really enjoyable!!

Bottled shared by ohiodad. Aroma of light belgian yeast and aroma of a light hoppiness. Flavor was a little bland but a pretty nice low alc belgian.

Pours out a nice gold color with a sizable white fluffy head. Aroma is grassy with some citrus and slight yeast notes. Sweet spice ans some earthy pepper notes are also hiding in the background of the nose. Taste is very smooth and well balanced. Citrus hops, spice, fruit and peppery notes. Finish is dry with some yeast. Good amount of hops, I like it!
