It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2009 A great grapefruit citrus aroma. Flavor has a lot more hops than I expected but is earthy at the same time. Dry and hoppy in the finish, but still quite nice. I would have again.

Tasted from a 0.750L bottle at the Lost Abbey 1st Annual Barrel Aged Beer tasting.

Pours a hazy yellow-ish orange with bright white head. The aroma is sort of sugary sweet with hints of spice and maybe honey. The taste is sweet, tart and dry. I get sweet malts with hints of wheat as well as tart tones of lemon and a hint of astringency. At times it ends sweet and others it seems to end dry or still others mildly tart. There’s some yeastiness too.

Bright gold pour with a big white head. Floral, spicy aroma with some yeast and bread/dough. Lighter tasting than expected. Oranges, crisp hops, honey, and a wheat-like tartness. Very dry. It was still very nice.

This Belgian Ale pours a deep orange gold color from a 750ml cork-finished bottle. Medium sized white foamy head with good head retention and nice lacing. Aroma is spicy and fruity, with some hints of orange, yeast and pepper. Lighter to medium bodied Belgian Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, with some cookie in the background. The hops are floral and earthy. Its much drier and spicier than one would expect from a golden ale. The peppery finish balances the malts, instead of the hops. Crisp and clean, light and refreshing. This is a nice beer for a warm summer evening. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is spicy and peppery.

Bottle. Pours with a golden color and a medium head. Spicy aromas, some esters, some nutmeg and a distinct hoppy nose. Flavor is bitter, spices and just a hint of the typical Belgian yest flavors. Finishes with some hoppy bitterness. Quite a refreshing brew, good for warm summer afternoons.

Shared by DYCSoccer17. Light honey-like, appley aroma, lightly fruity overall. Nice warm, biscuity malts, fairly clean sharp, dry body, substantial yet pleasingly crafted bitterness.
