CaptainCougar (4625), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 27, 2007 Sampled at the brewery on 11/9/07: Pours a hazy dark golden orange with a wispy white head. Complex oaky sweet and tart nose has some light fruity notes and a touch of toffee. Starts with good biscuity caramel and big tart oaky complexity toward a drier earthy cherry finish. An incredibly balanced, complex and enjoyable beer. WeeHeavySD (1700), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 11, 2007 Updated: Oct 10, 20074th sample Stone Anniversary Fest XI. Funky Barrel, man was I excited to see this. Pours copper brown with a bright white ring head. The nose was beautiful with a whole of lot of sour vinegar funk. Taste was robust sweet, sour and vinegary. Great sour, reminds me a lot of Deschutes Firewood. After drinking another pint or 2 of this at Patron Saint’s Party I have to bump this up a bit. aufaber (3), huntington beach, California, USA does not count Sep 14, 2007 I also tasted this at the Stone 11th Anniversary. Beer poured a reddish amber with minimal head and very low carbonation. Scent was of apples and mild vinegar with a flavor thats quite sour with fruity undertones and a complex and lingering back end that leaves you wanting more. Though I’d say half of the people we had try it found it to be vial and evil so it’s definitely a controversial beer. I went back for two more glasses. ironchefscott (226), long beach, California, USA Apr 8, 2008 on tap at beachwood bbq at the re-opening party......super nice sour nose.....golden color.....great flavor but missing.....just a little something to make it outstanding...but still a great sour......wish there was more around! badlizard (1430), San Diego, California, USA Sep 9, 2007 Tasted at Stone XI Party. Hazy golden amber with no head. Good strong sour apple and oak aroma. Slightly sour taste with a nice dry oaky finish. Excellent.
