And so the Three Wise Men set out from the East bearing gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Along the Way, they followed a bright light. The Bible neglects to mention if they brought beer or not. Who goes crossing the desert without beer? How smart are we to believe these wise men were? Since Christmas is the season of gift giving more than receiving, please be a giver and share the Wisdom found in each and every bottle of our Gift of the Magi.

Golden color with a large white head. Aroma is a slight hint of banana with yeast. Flavor is slightly spiced and peppery with a big yeast profile. Nicely balanced while still being aggressive with flavor. Wife’s Rating: 4.15

Cloudy appearance. Dark reddish brown color. Thick, frothy head. Spiderweb lacing. Bready aroma. Butterscotch. A slight floral nose. Pepper. Slick texture. Lively carbonation. Smooth finish. The more you drink the more dry it taste. All of a sudden i got orange aroma and flavor. This beer seems mysterious to me. I like the hidden suprises.

750 ml purchased at Julio’s Liquors. 2013 vintage. Aroma is caramel, molasses, earthy notes with some mild dark fruits.

Flavor has dark fruit base, candied sugar, English toffee, plus tart or lightly sour fruit note. Was Brett used in this? Or does it show the slightest hint of infection? The sweet flavor, spice and mild sour hint does kind balance the entire brew. The mouthfeel is on the full side with a creamy / low carbonation level. ABV is completely hidden. Overall I don’t love it but it was pretty easy to drink.

Red orange pour. Aroma creamy caramel. Tastes bitter tobacco, a little bourbon. Tastes a bit simple. This was aged for a year too.

Beautiful amber-orange, white medium head. Aroma is citrus, a bit sour. Taste is straight to alcohol and bitterness. The fruit comes after, which is unexpected. Very good beer!

A beautiful beer, a dark reddish colour with orange notes, a head is very big and light beige. Aroma is complex, dried but fresh fruits, fruitcake, some caramel, aromatic flowers, dates and some spices. Taste has dried fruits, apricot, prune, hint of lether, then bitterness and spices in the end. Medium+ bodied, strong carbonation, fresh palate. The beers from Lost Abbey are allways full of surprises and usually as a positive way, as also this beer. Miraculous complexicity but balanced. Enjoyable beer.

Big fluffy head. Plums, brown sugar, brandy. Earthy hops. Hint of mild barnyard funk. Bit of Brett on a medium long finish. Alcohol is present. Sweet honey grahams in the background, as expected with this Abv.

Bottles, vertical 2009 & 2013, enjoyed March 2015. Both pours clear maroon, with a creamy offwhite head which is significantly more voluminous on the 13. Aroma is roasted malts with bread, fruity yeast, spices and dark fruits with raisins and prunes, as well as some kandi. More mellow and balanced on the 09, and some alcohol on the 13. Medium body with soft carbonation on the 09, and not surprisingly more of both on the, somewhat, newer 13. Flavour is quite sweet roasted malts with bread and toffee, as well as yeast and wooden barrels. The 09 is quite fruity, with raisins, oak and tannins, where the 13 has more earthy notes with spicy sting of camphor and aniseed. Malty, bready finish, with differences reflecting the flavour notes of the two versions. A solid brew, where the six year old bottle has a more mellow and balanced feel, and is the winner of the two. Well done! (rating is based on the 09-version).

750 ml bottle from South Bay Drugs (before the name change) from old backlog notes. Pours a hazy dark orange amber color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor had caramel malts, dark fruits, plums, figs, yeast, spices, and some funk. The alcohol was more noticeable in the fresh bottle. The older bottle I had was less boozy and more funky. Medium bodied, dry finish.
