COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
And so the Three Wise Men set out from the East bearing gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Along the Way, they followed a bright light. The Bible neglects to mention if they brought beer or not. Who goes crossing the desert without beer? How smart are we to believe these wise men were? Since Christmas is the season of gift giving more than receiving, please be a giver and share the Wisdom found in each and every bottle of our Gift of the Magi.

Bottle. Itís been a couple weeks now since this showed up at my door. I had pondered holding both bottles for a while but aspidites insisted that I pull one so I could try it fresh and enjoy the dry hopping, heís never steered me wrong with anything beer related so what could I do? The pour is murky and burnt copper in color with a persistent ivory head. The aroma is primarily malt and yeast with a sort of musty orange note. Bright hop character in the flavor with a nice brettiness not unlike a fresh Orval. I like where this is going... The malt sweetness is very subdued and I refuse to believe the alcohol is 9.5 %, thereís only a touch in there. Everything seems to be balanced in this beer but its seems to be delicately balanced, if that makes any sense. If I were one to believe in tag lines for beer, Iíd call this one the chandelier of beers. Thereís also slight stone fruit notes. I donít get the scores on this one; I think itís awesome! To each their own, I guess. You canít argue with anyoneís palate.

Deep orange with a substantial, long-lasting head. Smell is toffee, bread, dark fruit, molasses. Taste is light and dark fruit, candied orange peels, rum, subtle hop tang, some floral notes. Boozy finish. Good.

Transfer from BA review on 9-8-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance - Served a clear amber colored beer with a small white cap. The small head faded rather fast to leave some decent lacing. Smell Ė The nose was heavy of sweet caramel and light fruit smells. The fruit is heaviest of a pear aroma, but there are other lighter notes of peach and apple as well. Taste Ė The taste begins with some of the sweet caramel and fruit that were detected in the nose, with a bready base that supports the sweeter flavors quite well. A very light funky and yeasty flavor then start to work their way into the taste profile. As this occurs, the sweetness dwindles some and the taste gets slightly drier. In the end the beer leaves a semi-sweet fruity and lightly tart taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is much the same. Overall Ė A nice tasty brew that while even at 10 % is very easy to drink. Definitely one to give a go to.

Hazy red brown body with high frosty head. Aroma has caramel yeasty character, candi sugar, little bit burned. Taste has high caramel sweetness, warming alcohol, high earthy bitterness. Body has high carbonation, full, oily texture.

Solid beer. I like it. Itís good. It is beer. It is Belgian. It is wet. It is carbonated. It had a head. It was a bottle from 2009 that I bought in 2014 after a sunny but windy and chilly darklord day.

Bottle at Natifest. Hazy amber orange color. Thin ring of off-white head. Loose bits of lace. Medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp lightly soft light to moderate strength carbonation. More dry finish, light slick. Good citrus and plum aroma in the flavor. Light spice. Some belgian yeast. Moderate sweet taste, light spice. Light bitter. Solid, interesting stuff... a bit tangy, though, kind of spicy.

8/02/2014: Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi... This beer is a really intricate blend of toasted caramel malt, Belgian fruit and spice, and cooked fruit. There is just a bit of vinegar-like acidicness that balances out the beer nicely. The beer is dry, but not overly so. I havenít had a Lost Abbey beer in a long time and this is a great one to have after my hiatus! Many thanks to andyReynolds for sharing!

Bottle from 2011. Pours dark brown with white head. Aromas of dried figs, clove, bread, caramel, alcohol. Same in the taste. Very smooth for such a big beer.

Bottle from a local shop. Big malty barleywine aroma & flavor. Didnít really pick up too much Brett, maybe it needed some more time. Good beer, nothing totally stand out to me.
