UPDATED: FEB 4, 2012 Gorgeous ruby red body under loose off-white head, low carbonation, natural. Brown sugar and rich citrus fruit nose. Wonderful brunt sugar and black cherry opening with an orange spice middle and grassy bitter finish. Very very nice. Medium fill to the palate and oily texture. Excellent beer, excellent!

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Heavy on the CO2, very heavy, not sure of the IBU’s but it sure has a bitter taste to it, the aftertaste is almost like an IPA. Very hoppy, has that yeasty undercooked bread type of taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slightly darker amber colored, moderate head, good lace/retention. Aroma is yeast dominated with notes of spice, caramel, grass. Medium bodied, somewhat sweet, alcohol hidden well. A slightly different take on the style.

Tasted on draft at Plan 9 in Escondido, CA. Massive golden abbey bier de garde. Farmhouse, barnyard, high alcohol but balanced malts offsets nicely.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle vintage 2012. Clear red amber with a large creamy off white head. Good retention and lace. Sharp nose, spicy, straw, flowery/herbal hops, white chocolate. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Dry, spicy, dry alcohol. I can’t figure out what the objective is, but the result is a bit somewhat soft, spicy and alcoholic. Christmasy.
