Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Vestergaard (1293) - Aarhus C, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2014
37,5cl bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black with a tiny, brown head. Aroma has huge, dried fruity notes. Lots and lots of raisins, prunes, dates, figs and so on. Some alcohol, caramel malts and some milky chocolate here as well. Taste has dark roast, and corresponding bitterness, coffee, lots of "milka" chocolate, port wine, syrup, caramel and again lots of these dark, dried, overripe fruits. A bit of molasses as well. Medium-low carbonation and medium-full body. Fine beer, but gets exhausting in bigger amounts.

"#4500! Cin and peppers expected, tamarind was not. Totally cool, unique, and decadent unexpected treat. I like the base beer and this version was deeelicious. Low heat, all kinds of complexity, and sweetness..."

Bottle from backlog. Very dark with a large beige head, when opened, the cork shoots off like opening a champagne bottle. Aroma: malty, fruity, licorice, wool. Taste: wool mittens, earthy, spices, a hint of milk chocolate, licorice, dried fruit. Full-bodied.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours murky brown, no real head. Aromas of light spice and toffee. Taste is ore of the same, bit sticky. OK.

McNeillR (2023) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 7, 2014
Murky light brown, filmy and ringed beige head. Chalky yeast, without being banana estery - lemon, grain, well played with lego and light spice. Soft lip fizzing spice, but no burn. More American strong than anything else, rich and unmilled oatiness. Thin and unsweet. Decent enough.

Bottle, Let’s Go Digita Tasting
