Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Bottle at Craftheads. Yum. Aroma is porridge, sweetness, quad stuff, sweet maltiness, bit of fruit, no sign of the spice. Taste is great. Dubbel like beefiness, sweet, maybe a touch of spice at the end. Raisins. Good stuff. Classic quad with a spicy finish. Boozy at the end too.

Bottle. Pours deep dark brown, with a red hue, and a nice creamy layer of mocha head. Aroma is really nice roasted malts with chocolate, bread and dark fruits, as well as wood, leather and good, hot notes of chili. All very mellow, and nicely balanced. Creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet roasted malts with cocoa and bread, hot peppery chili, and dark fruits, raisins and berries, leather, wood and liquorice. Lingering sweet, hot finish.

0,33 pullo@ Vihreä Haltijatar. Samea, kermaisen tummanruskea. Tuoksussa mallasta, luumua, taateleita, rusinoita, hyvin tummaa, lähes palanutta kinuskia. Maussa paahteista mallasta, alkoholia, hieman tummaa suklaata, tummaa ylikypsää marjaa. Kermainen tuntuma, sopivan kevyt samalla.

RasmusOtt (2311) - Aarhus, DENMARK - SEP 21, 2014
Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of dates, raisins, figs, milky chocolate, spices, butter scotch, ripe plums and syrup. You kinda know what this beer is about when you stick your nose into it. Taste has those same sweet notes with all the ripe fruits and the more syrupy notes behind. Also has some heat in the end. Kinda nice but maybe too much of a sipper due to the extremely sweetness - which gets a bit one-sided in the long run.

Vestergaard (1696) - Aarhus C, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2014
37,5cl bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black with a tiny, brown head. Aroma has huge, dried fruity notes. Lots and lots of raisins, prunes, dates, figs and so on. Some alcohol, caramel malts and some milky chocolate here as well. Taste has dark roast, and corresponding bitterness, coffee, lots of "milka" chocolate, port wine, syrup, caramel and again lots of these dark, dried, overripe fruits. A bit of molasses as well. Medium-low carbonation and medium-full body. Fine beer, but gets exhausting in bigger amounts.

"#4500! Cin and peppers expected, tamarind was not. Totally cool, unique, and decadent unexpected treat. I like the base beer and this version was deeelicious. Low heat, all kinds of complexity, and sweetness..."

Bottle from backlog. Very dark with a large beige head, when opened, the cork shoots off like opening a champagne bottle. Aroma: malty, fruity, licorice, wool. Taste: wool mittens, earthy, spices, a hint of milk chocolate, licorice, dried fruit. Full-bodied.
