4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Znakomite quadrupel amerykanskie. Fajna buteleczka korkowana, a korek hucznie strzelil. Aromat porto i winiaku. Wyglad to piekne ciemnobrazowe piwo z bordowym refleksem. Metne na koniec ze prawie czarne sie robi. Bardzo ladna i trwala piana jak na ten gatunek. Jest trwala, kremowa i bezowa. W smaku jakby sliwki, rodzynki i rum. Alkoholowa nuta wyczuwalna. Szlachetny alkohol przyjemnie rozgrzewa i relaksuje. Wspaniale piwo, swietnie pasowalo do francuskiego sera plesniowego. Polecam

Bottle from Martys, drunk 4/5/14
Very fragrant nose, pralines and toffee, quite lighthearted for such a big beer. Some light prunes add tartness and the caramel-vanilla cream sweetness actually sits in the background.
Dark, mahogany with ruby tints. The head is light tan and moderately well-retained.
Phew. Strong. Chiles are very lightly notable and sweet chocolate, tart prunes and almost a mint-like spiciness really shock the palate. Warmth on the end, though it’s not overtly alcoholic. Toffee sweetness is chewy, but the ample, expansive carbonation obliterates any sense of syrupiness/thickness that may exist here. Still, you can’t hold back such bold flavors, even with the disruptive carbonation, and it gets pretty fatiguing after just a few sips. Do love the chiles, though and the chocolate-cinnamon note is quite reserved and adds more complexity. Actually quite astringent on the finish. Like eating a dried red chili pepper soaked in tamarind and soy sauce. Ok, not really. I don’t know. Seems pretty far-gone from the base Judgment Day. Belgian, strong or light are still subtle beers and chili, cinnamon and tamarind really don’t work with them. Or so I think.

My Bottom Line:
Raisiny sweetness, alcohol heat and delicate spiciness evolve within this creative take on the Quadrupel style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam laces around the cloudy brown.
-Spices and chili are well integrated and could be mistaken for yeast phenolics. This is not a spice bomb, thankfully.
-Effervescence is relatively soft on the palate, which in turn makes the residual sugars feel a tad too heavy.
-This one’s great with pecan nuts, for example.
Bottle. Thx Clark!

Sampled at Lost Abbey on 3/19//2014. This Abbey Quad pours a dark amber brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, dates, brown sugar and some chilies. Medium to full bodied Abbey Quadruple. The malts are dark fruit and sweet, brown sugar, molasses and dates. The hops are herbal and earthy. Big dark quad with some chili and other spices. Light carbonation. Nice balance between the malts and the spices. Very smooth. Finish is smooth and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet with a touch of spice.
