COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Bottle - drink after 21/12/12. Very dark - almost black with a slight red tinge. Big foamy beige head endures, thick lacing. Smell - yeast and milky instant coffee. Body is medium to light and very foamy. Typical of Belgian style beers but really not my type of thing. Taste - malts, spice, sweetened milky coffee or chicory, dank cave (if that counts as a flavour) alcohol comes through noticeably but not as much as it could at 10.5%, tamarind is there as advertised. True to the style and decent enough.

Pours a dark brown beer with a light brown head. Aroma: complex and slightly spicy. Palate: sweet, tiny bit spicy and a lot of malty bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel: mild carbonation, bit sticky. A little disappointing, still ok though.

Best after 12/21/12 Pours dark brown with a rim of light yellow foam. Smells of candy sugar, dark malts, belgian esters, a touch of cinnamon and a little ever so slight chili pepper character. Taste is sweet and belgian yeasty with malts, clay, grass, slight heat, raisin and oranges. Full bodied with an almost cotton candy tackiness, medium carb and dry finish. This is a meh beer to me. Serving type: bottle 12-22-2012

[Thanks to fiulijn]. Bottle. All aroma when opened with notes of caramel and toffee. Very dark brown colour with a beige and quickly diminishing head. Aroma has notes of red fruits, slightly sweet, no cloying, notes of coffee, toffee and caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet at the beginning with aa good maltiness, notes of toffee and caramel with yeasty and spiced hints, also chocolate plumbcake are present.. The final is slightly bittery wit ripe fruits and spices. Dense and creamy on palate with hints of alcohol that is hidden by caramel.
