On tap 4 oz. pour at the Lost Abbey tasting room in San Marcos, CA. Clear, dark mahogany with a small khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, raisins, molasses, chocolate, brown sugar and coffee. Taste of roasted malt, dark fruit, grapes, raisins, chocolate and molasses with noticeable alcohol in the finish. Medium/light body and high/medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12.7 oz bottle. Dark brown that kicks up a huge balsa head. Nose is dough, brown sugar, raisin and spice. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is Belgian yeast, plum, dandelion greens and burnt sugar; spices barely noticeable. It’s got an odd basement quality i can’t get used to.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, raisin, and light chili peppers. It pours a dark brown with some orange transparency and a small beige head. The flavor starts with chocolate and caramel. The finish has raisin, vegetal notes, and light chili peppers. It’s medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Bottle pours very dark brown with a huge tan root beer float head. Aroma dark fruits and Belgian yeasts with cinnamon and chiles. Taste dark fruits with some roast, then the spices move in with chocolate, cinnamon, chiles and coriander. Finish slight bitterness. palate full with alcohol and chile burn.

Interesting beer but more of a novelty than something I’d want very often.

Lost Abbey Mayan judgement day... Let me first start by saying that this bottle, the shape, the artwork, all are very attractive. Dark fruits on nose, Bibble gum, ripe purple grapes, pear and spice. No real head. Flavor has mill chocolate, sweet brown sugar, plum, subdued spice. Boozy, dark fruit finish. Ok, but a bit all over the place in which more ingredients contribute to messiness rather than depth. Prefer original.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours a deep brown-nearly black with a robust tan head. Nose is super spicy, yeast driven. Clove and pepper dominate. Some earthy chile notes and cinnamon. Tamarind is lost. On the palate, some cocoa and a faint chile heat. The yeast is just too much overall for this beer to work right, imo. Cinnamon pushes the dryness as well. Meh.

Bottle. Brown pour with a tan head. Spice and roasted malt aromas. The taste pretty much follows suit with some pepper and cacao undercurrents.

Tap pours with a dark mahogany body and is supporting a light colored mocha head of foam. The aroma is initially loads blueberry, boysenberry and ripe juicy dark colored grapes. Then it becomes more spicy with coriander and a dash of cinnamon and then a nice sense of chocolate. The taste is full and rich with coriander like spices and then a black pepper sense as sweetness starts to fill in around the edges with a sweet mix of prunes, figs and chocolate. Tasty stuff.

375 ml bottle shared by NobleSquirrel. Thanks, Brian! Pours a richer deep brownish plum hue. Darker, good haze, brownish rich body with just a touch of light on the edges. A frothy brownish head dies to a negligible layer, minimal lacing. Aromas are sweeter, Quad like with lots of dark fruit, brown sugar, kiss of cocoa and dry bakers chocolate. Gentle fruit, caramel and toffee mix with touches of gentle yeast. Peppery spice element doesn’t really take hold for me, kiss of spice and cinnamon. Initial is fuller bodied, cinnamon and brown sugar, touches of cocoa, caramel and toffee. Gentle plum, dried fruit and toffee. Middle is similar, a bit chewy. Gentle spice (but not heat, bakers spice), a bit sweet. This doesn’t really come together, the pepper barely makes an appearance for me. A bit sweet, sticky into the backend with some gentle cinnamon. Meh. I think the base is a lot better. This certainly isn’t a bad beer, but I was just expecting a lot more from the treatment itself.

On tap at the Alehouse. Pour is a dark brown with a bubbly beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, and a flutter of roasted dark malts. Flavor is yeasty,spicy prune up front, then settles into a sweet dark caramelized sugars. Finish is a bit too clean, not much lingering flavor. Good, but not great.
