COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

A - pours dark almost opaque cola brown with orange highlights. High Espresso head that dissipates quickly, nice lacing. S - Belgian yeast up front, cinnamon, chili notes, ginger ale, figs, dried dark fruit, raisins. M - strong bodied, full sweet rich palate. Tangy and burn on the back of the throat. High carb. Lingering malty stickiness. T - Belgian yeasts strong at first taste. Dried dark fruits (prunes and raisins) brown sugar, cinnamon, chili spice in the palate. Figs, hint of chocolate, vegetal malts on the end. Hints of tangy raw cacao. O - quite good spiced quad. Complex and subtle, not as complex or as long lasting as the best of the rich Belgian quads. 3.7 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 375ml - Opaque dark red brown beer with a large beige head. Aroma is fruity with notes of dates, raisins, spices, honey, chicken broth and apricots. Flavor is spicy with notes of caramel, raisins, spices and licorice. Very complex and balanced beer.

350ml bottle from sprouts. Pours a dark brown color with a big khaki colored head that has good retention. The aroma featured dark fruits, raisins, dates and figs. The taste was similar to the nose, lot of dark fruits, nuts, and cola. The palate was full and smooth with lively carbonation. The finish was long and sweet. Overall: Nice brewski.

Huge yellow-beige head, big bubbled & irregular, fully resistant and leaving lace over virtually black beer. Nose bursting with exotic vegetables, herbs and fruit. Chocolate and chili peppers; promising fiery heat and complexity. Chocalte, burnt, CO³ acidity, dark fruit, coffee cream, Bitter-sweet-spicy and yet moderate heat in the mouth. Bit aldehyde-like - the cinnamon? Again dark fruit in the background, steeped in brandy. Very creamy head, spritzy liquid and velvety, full-bodied beer; warming. Simply excellent.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2013 "The world has ended a long time ago, we are going backward."Jhonn Balance. Thx! to Niel sampled 375 ml. corked & caged LA bottle. Pours dark brown with little beige head. Nose is dark fruits, light chocolate, spices, sweet herbs, very light licorish,… Taste is overripe dark fruits, soaked raisins, clear booze, ferment dark fruits booze, red grapes, sweet, light chocolate, mellow malts, light vanilla oak, not really getting oak,.. Bit explosive carb. Not really getting chilli here,… A clear attempt to imitate the greats of the style, solid but far from the top.

Bottle from Windy City shared at Andy’s. Pours a deep mahogany body with thin bubbly lacing. Aroma is spice, cinnamon, peppers, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is thin and carbonated with notes of dark fruit, spice, chili peppers, cinnamon, and caramel. Overall, the heat in the body really holds this back from being another Lost Abbey knockout. However, I’d be curious to get another bottle and see how age rounds this out.

@ Havregatan. Flaska från Systembolaget (79:-). Nej, det här är inte min typ av öl. Mörkbrun, nästan svart, kryddig och fruktigt söt. Tycker alkoholen (10,5 %) går igenom för mycket.

Bottle from BOE, split with JF, 20/04/13. Opaque mahogony brown with a thin bubbly tan head. Nose is dark malt, Belgian yeast strains, brown sugars, soured dark fruits. Taste comprises dark fruit, molasses, sour and tarte fruit notes, demerara sugar, yeast, touch of booze. Full bodied with light spritzy carbonation, boozey finish. Decent.
