COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Dark brown pour, tan head, moderate retention. Aroma is Belgian-esters, spice (cinnamon and cloves), dark fruit. Taste is quite spicy, hint of chiles at the end in the back of the throat. Lively carb, slick mouthfeel. Taste lingers nicely. Overall: I haven't had the regular judgment day, but this is nice. The hint of spice is cool - without it I'm not sure I'd be able to distinguish it from other good quads. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.375l corked bottle. Quite a big lively head on this one, kinda nut brown in color and fading rapidly. This on top of a deep dark almost ruby brown body. Smells nice this! Lots of dark near burned sweet caramel with dark candied sugar, traces of leather and dark blue ripe plums. Smells really nice! Tastes quite nice also. It has that gunpowder/licorice salty touch that I quite enjoy. Feels light oily in the mouth with a above average carbonation level. Dark malty and a little roasted in the taste. It has a little bit of spicy plums going on here also and it’s leaving a really gentle soft buy present burn right on the tip of the tongue. Have to admit that this is quite a tasty one. I know I can so I will get another couple of bottles of this one before it’s gone. Nice! 04.12.2013

37,5 (12.7 Fl. Oz) corked & caged bottle shared by oldmanriver to help wash down Rode Duivels Demise Day... Bref: adds an easy New World Chiqueness to the modern type of spiced quadrupel popularised by De Struise, minus the saturated sugars. - Blends in burnt raisin and lovely tamarind’s gastronomic meaty tartness into a molten Chili Mon Chérie. - Pours a flat oily chocolate with reddish shine. Well-rounded fruit infused chococcino nose with a whiff of cinnamon spice and raisin - barreled Starbucks for candied asses. Fruit tartness in flavours feels additive, adjunctive, but not out of place, the stone and orchard fruit meat adding to the oily mouthfeel, Welcome chocolate raisin body draped with all kinds of wintery spices from exotic hemispheres. Moderate use of that chilli tingle delivered to the back of the throat, joining dried yet still lush navel oranges, now held under a chilli chocolate fountain at a tacky wedding. Suave sipper for any sun-drenched rosy apocalypse.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with big, but brief, foamy beige head. Malty, spicy nose with dark fruit, coffee, liquorice, caramel, dark chocolate, orange peel and spices (dried chilli, cinnamon). Malty, spicy taste with notes of caramel, liquorice, black coffee, chocolate, orange peel, spices (chilli, cinnamon, star anise, ginger), burnt sugar and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite powerful and complex, with lots of coffee, chocolate and spices. Nice one.

Muddy, dark brown color with mocha head. Aroma has raisins, dark sugar and some other generic dark fruit character. Taste follows with dark fruits, bitter chocolate and raisins. Body is medium with light carbonation, also quite boozy. Overall this beer has some nice flavors but I think it’s too bitter for the style. Some sweetness would have helped to bring out all the components in a better way.

Nocturne (1773) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2015
375ml bottle. Darkest brown. Yellow-brown head. Aroma is raisin, brown sugar, orange peel. Only tamarind from the spice blend stands out. Taste is chocolate and toffee malty with plummy raisin fruitiness. Spices seem to have dropped off. A well put together quad. Misses out on some complexity but still very tasty.

Very dark amber pour, tan head with decent retention and a somewhat sticky lacing. You can tell from the smell that this is a Belgian quad - caramel / brown sugar, dried fruit (figs, raisins), coffee, cocoa, a bit of vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. Taste notes include raisins, figs, caramel, sour cherries, some cinnamon (which I probably wouldn’t have noticed, had I not known it should be there), coffee, dark chocolate and a spicy chilli punch, probably made more potent by the high ABV. Medium to full bodied, with a creamy and a bit sticky mouthfeel. Spicy aftertaste, with a nice sweet caramel component to balance it out.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brownish beer with a small, off white head on top that disappears really quickly. Aroma is very fruity, loads of dark fruits, some herbal and vegetal notes. Flavor has a very faint spicy note, loads of sweet ripe fruits, a decent, thick malty mouthfeel. Aftertaste is long and sweet, sticky and cloying till the very finish. Low level of carbonation. some yeastyness detected in the mouthfeel. Overall quite nice, but not really impressive as a Quad in my book.

Lasting light brown head. Clear brown coloer. A nice blend of chocolate and caramell malts in the aroma. Distinct sweetness with a complex maltiness and som bitterness.
