Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans donít actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didnít want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, weíre pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. Weíve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Corked bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 10.5%. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Sweetish malty and spicy aroma, nice. Malty and spicy flavour too, medium sweet, moderate notes of chili, I canít pinpoint the cinnamon and tamarind, but Iím sure they are there.

Bottle at Schouskjelleren. Very dark, fluffy head. Dried fruit, prunes and figs. Deceivingly light mouth feel, very drinkable. White peper, salt, liquorice. The chili is very discreet. Incredible beer!

12oz bottle. The bottle looks cool, no doubts about it. The corsk jumps out with a loud pop, lots of pressure in this tiny bottle. Foam starts coming out slowly, gusher warning. It pours dark ruby / mahogany in the glass with a huge off-white head. Tiny bubbles that stick around and last long. Aroma is a tad weaker than you could expect. Nothing realy jumps in your face but you can easily distinguish raisins, red peppers, blood, yeast. Some cinnamon and bread in there, plus mix of dried fruits. Taste is on the sweet side with a slightly acidic kick in the end. You can raisins, cinnamon, bread, plums and chili in the end. It finishes a bit warming, but nothing to put me off. Actually I find the chili to be very well integrated. Some sort of orange zest kinde feel to it as well. Mouthfeel is medium to tick with huge carbonation. Nothing that a good olí swirl canít resolve. Overall, this is good stuff. I think the spices added work perfectly with the base beer. Only complain would be the weak aroma, even at room temp. Very good nonetheless.

Bottle - drink after 21/12/12. Very dark - almost black with a slight red tinge. Big foamy beige head endures, thick lacing. Smell - yeast and milky instant coffee. Body is medium to light and very foamy. Typical of Belgian style beers but really not my type of thing. Taste - malts, spice, sweetened milky coffee or chicory, dank cave (if that counts as a flavour) alcohol comes through noticeably but not as much as it could at 10.5%, tamarind is there as advertised. True to the style and decent enough.

375ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Somehow cautious and indifferent aroma, hints of chocolate, unspecific dark fruit, spices, cinnamon. Taste is moderately sweet, dark malty, hints of dark fruit, plum, grapes and the like, dark chocolate, chili, cinnamon, some warming alcohol in the finish. Heavy stuff, somehow without emphasis, not really satisfying.

375ml bottle

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a foamy head. Aroma of syrup, malts, dark ripe fruits, spices and hints of roastiness. Taste is carbonated, sweet, and syrupy with notes of dark ripe fruits, spices and caramel. Finish is sweet, carbonated and spicy with some licorice, syrupy and caramely toffee notes. Unbalanced, a bit messy.
