COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

jmgreenuk (4956) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 12, 2013
Bottle at the John=Jim Den Haag tasting, Den Haag. Poured a dark brown colour with a thick frothy off white head. The aroma is dry with some hoppy notes. The flavour is strong bitter and alcoholic. The palate is a little too bitter. The alcoholic bitterness is starting to dominate which doesn’t appeal to me.

Countbeer (4726) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - AUG 8, 2013
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Brown pour. Medium to bigger sized beige foamy head on top of a deep dark red colored beer. Aromas of red fruit, strawberries and berries, yeast, chalk, leaves, wood, hint of peppery dust, cinnamon and meat, some malts, toast and liquorice (wood). Flavours of spices like pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon, dry, bitter, malt toast, berries, some strawberries and a hint of cherries, barley malts, nuts, leaves, some autumnal herbs and hay toast. Aftertaste is toasty, malty, peppery, woody and porridge. Low to medium carbo, creamy and lightly blown spicy mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. One part of me really likes this beer with the pepper and such but the other half misses some interesting/complex body. Good beer but not what I expected.

Bottle. Dark brown, large tannish head. Sweet dark malts, chocolate, spice, cinnamon, raisin, boozy, and sharp carbonation. Unfortunately the sharpness is pretty strong. Nice flavor, but overall I didn’t enjoy it too much.

Pours deep mahogany into a trappist glass. Tan head with excellent retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Vanilla and chocolate aromas. Dry with sweet chocolate and vanilla upfront turning to sour pit fruit in the lasting earthy finish.

Wee corked bottle cons 2013-03-20 Göteborg (from SB) AR: chocolate on chocolate AP: deep dark brown colored body, stouthy steady light brown head F: fizzy, vinos, plum marmelade, filled chocolate pralinas, warming feeling, quite bitter, took away the desturbing carbonation but then the alcholic is getting to evident. Needs some more storage to calm down for sure!

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2013 "The world has ended a long time ago, we are going backward."Jhonn Balance. Thx! to Niel sampled 375 ml. corked & caged LA bottle. Pours dark brown with little beige head. Nose is dark fruits, light chocolate, spices, sweet herbs, very light licorish,… Taste is overripe dark fruits, soaked raisins, clear booze, ferment dark fruits booze, red grapes, sweet, light chocolate, mellow malts, light vanilla oak, not really getting oak,.. Bit explosive carb. Not really getting chilli here,… A clear attempt to imitate the greats of the style, solid but far from the top.

375ml cork and caged bottle shared by Dean. Poured a murky muddy brown with a brown small foamy head. Aroma of milk, peppers, bad stale green peppers, soap, old toast. The body was foamy with loads of carbonation, a quick fading aftertaste. Flavor is not much better than the aroma, notes of bad chocolate, old green peppers and bad bread. Not sure if I drank the same beer as all the other raters (I know I did it was a corked bottle) wish mine tasted/rated like everyone else’s.

Tap @ Lost Abbey... Poured dark, near black with a thin head. A little bit of a mole’ thing going on here. Spice and sweetness and hint of chile pepper to keep it interesting. Toasted and roasted notes, and some sweetness. Had the spices, but balanced and not really burning or anything.
