COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse. Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Bonus bottle share thanks Aaron. This was a great surprise pours dark brown with creamy light brown head with nice lacing along the glass. Smells of bread and cloves nice malty smell. Definitely taste the clove, raisin, plum and hints of chocolate. Overall this is a very good beer that has a hint of warming that is excellent for enjoying on the couch on a cold day.

Dark brown color, almost black, with medium sized creamy head.
Mild aroma I roasted malt and spices, some pepper. High carbonation, good flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate, lean in the beginning rounder later, with pleasant piquant spiciness.
It gets better given some time to settle an oxygenate. Very good.

Bottle. Pours with a nice pop, medium size and mostly retentive tan head over an extremely deep brown, near black hues body. Aromas are of dried peppers, chocolate, toffee, cinnamon and lots of dark fruit. Dry, nearly roasty with thr peppers. Rich, boozy as well. Complex. Flavors are of flan, toffee, creme brûlée, chocolate, vinous, leather, raisins, dark fruits. Malty with many dark fruit esters and light burn. Lively carbonation, low burn, dark chocolate, well hidden alcohol. Tasty.

375mL from Bine&Vine. Murky, muddy, deep brune pour. Towering dark tan head. Big bubbles, okay retention. Nose is pretty nice milk chocolate, hot cocoa, muted nutmeg/allspice, sweet/spicy tamarind (this time tamarind is actually in the beer...a first?). Very nice. Taste is dense, yeasty, filling with spices, alcohol, more alcohol...almost flavored vodka like booziness...made me shake with near gag reflex after notes of vodka surfaced. I took way too big of a swig..this is a sipper. Ok, now it is tolerable with dark rum, semisweet chocolate, spiked egg nog. Palate is dense, powdery, some silkiness. Overall a bit yeasty/muddy with some spicy chocolate dessert flavors that work better than just the dark cherry character of normal Judgment Day. I enjoyed it. Let it warm and the Abbey Quadrupel notes come into play- chocolate, yeast, sweet alcohol warming. On style even with all the adjuncts.

Got something small to celibrate, and the name of this beer is related. Very dark brown beer, a good head that holds nice and steady. Malts, raisins and spiced coffee and chocolate. Not bad at all. I like the spices and maybe this one will age even better. If It was some cheaper I would buy more for sure. When warming up there get some more unpleasant biterness trough. That is a bit sad.

Bottle pours very dark brown with a huge tan root beer float head. Aroma dark fruits and Belgian yeasts with cinnamon and chiles. Taste dark fruits with some roast, then the spices move in with chocolate, cinnamon, chiles and coriander. Finish slight bitterness. palate full with alcohol and chile burn.

Interesting beer but more of a novelty than something I’d want very often.
