COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

Bottle:   Straw in color, somewhat cloudy, moderate to large frothy white head, sticky lacing.   Funk on the nose, almost seems like Brett.   Otherwise pale breadiness, slightly floral and grassy.   Soft funkiness on the tongue, pale breadiness, even softer grass.   Does have a Bretty aspect.   Clean, slightly tart, but could use a touch more sweetness.   I actually like this one more than most.   Seems more Belgian like than many others brewed stateside.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   Finishes quick, clean, but almost too quick.   Just needs to be a bit more tart and I think it would be DY-NO-MITE!

Bottle (rated sometime in 2008). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of lemon zest, pepper, plastic. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

Bottle split at Monks with PJ and Andrew. Pours a clear golden body with very light haze and some white lacing. Aroma is fresh, floral notes, dusty, and slight funk. Mouthfeel is dry with notes of dry floral hops, farmhouse funk, dust, bitter citrus fruits. Solid, delicate saison.

Port/Lost Abbey Ne Goeien Saison 2008 bottle. Thanks to my brother in law Ryan. Cheers! Pors murky gold with a thick white head and good retention. Aroma is grassy with notes of pears and other fruits without the requisite sweetness. A little spicy. Flavor is bone dry and tangy with good citrus notes and a spicy quality. Highly drinkable

Bottle found on shelf, 2008 in 2011. Lemon and bread on nose. Citrus wheat saison. Bitterness on finish. Def saison yeast strain. Might be too cold ATM. A good summery beer.

2008 Bottle via Footbalm - thanks Eric. First glass pours a clear golden color with an inch of bubbly white head. Lots of bubbles. Nose is fresh and clean. Spicey florals, grassey, malts, and straw. Very approachable scent. The mouthful is smooth and full-bodied. A little fruit comes forth, seems like apples. A little more straw, some grain, florals, and grass. Maintains a nice malty sweetness and the apple stays in the mix. Some florals bitters. Works well together and very good overall.
