COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

750mL bottle, courtesy of wetherel. Thanks, John! Pours a hazy golden color; white head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Solidly dry, mineral bitterness, honey and basic yeastiness in the aroma; nicely dry, crisp, and hoppy. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of dry yeastiness, mineral bitterness, and toasty malts upfront; very nicely dry, crisp, toasty, etc.; excellent hoppy saison. Lengthy finish: mineral bitterness, toasty malts, and dry yeastiness; again, crisp and hoppy; really nicely done.

Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy pale body with a large white head, lots of lace. Big floral/herbal hops nose with some hay and dough. The flavor is just lightly sweet, moderately bitter with lots of floral hops, some pepper, some honey, dough and hay. Medium body is lively with moderate carbonation.

Bottle provided by JMFG. Thanks! Gold pour with a nice head that fades into a light white ring. Good lacing. The aroma of this is big in straw, hay, pepper, a touch of bitterness, and even a little alcohol. The flavor has a mild nuttiness and lots of raw, unprocessed grain, along with some bitter herbals. Very tough to drink, and comes across as something more like 8%. I do enjoy this somewhat, but it is not light and refreshing as a good saison should be, nor does it have any quality yeasty or floral notes.

Straw, hazy. Aroma of pedio, sweat, some light pepper and pale malt. The taste is pepper, but heavy on the pedio. Simple, with some breay notes. A little bit disappointing.

From a 750mL Bottle. Mostly hazy, pale gold color with a two finger head of fizzy white foam. Aromas of herbal, floral hops, doughy yeast, and light pepper. Hints of coriander and banana. Light bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a pleasantly dry finish. While the finish is dry, the the body is still soft and well textured. Flavors of bready malt and a mild wheat tartness up front, followed by a wave of herbal hops. Some doughy yeast, light banana, and faint pepper make there way out on the palate. Pleasantly hoppy, and seems to have a carbonic bite to the bitterness similar to Dupont, but not nearly to that level. Excellent, Dupont-like example of the style; not as complex, but certainly one I’d like to enjoy on a regular basis.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2009 At Vero, thanks Gumby for sharing this one! Bright yellow, hazy, wispy. Cloud of white head and lacing. Farmhouse aromas: goat, wet leather, wet fur, teeny bit of pedio, fruit seeds. Soft, gentle effervescence like light Belgian fizzy. Belgian-style hops, Duponty in character. Nice hops, unique, dry, soapy character. Can really taste the Urthel influence, it’s lovely.

Bottle @ kp party. Hazy pale golden with small off-white head. Bright hoppy citrus rind aroma is lovely. Egg shells, fun saison dryness. Really nice and smooth and not too fizzy with a great bitter aftertaste. SAME SCORE

750ml, Quick sample at Pizza Port in Solana Beach. Proper temp and served in wine glass. Quite nice. Very drinkable and refreshing on a hot day. Great floral notes and balanced acidity and sour finish that I enjoy is good Saison’s. Cool bottle and label. Wanted more and have seen it for $8.99, a very fair price for a saison of this quality.

RBSG 2008. Pours gold, very clear, with a tall white head. Dry citrus in the nose, crisp and floral. Very well balanced with a stronger hopping in the finish and a refreshing spiciness.

Bottle. Golden beer with a nice off-white head. Citrus, summer fruit aroma. Hay, spice, yeast, summer fruit/orange flavor with light banana. Medium body. Summer fruit, hay, and yeast linger.

Sent a photo in to be uploaded. 2008 Bottle (initial release). Pours with an average sized, rocky, white head covering a murky yellow body. Great retention and lacing is great too. Aroma of pineapple, pepper, orange and Kumquat (hoppiness) as well as a doughy yeast smell. Taste is dry and slightly peppery, a bit spicey in the finish with some bitterness. A very good, easy drinking saison. Dry mouthfeel with lively bubbles. Perfectly to style, and a freat summer collaboration.
