COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

2008 Bottle via Footbalm - thanks Eric. First glass pours a clear golden color with an inch of bubbly white head. Lots of bubbles. Nose is fresh and clean. Spicey florals, grassey, malts, and straw. Very approachable scent. The mouthful is smooth and full-bodied. A little fruit comes forth, seems like apples. A little more straw, some grain, florals, and grass. Maintains a nice malty sweetness and the apple stays in the mix. Some florals bitters. Works well together and very good overall.

750ml bottle into a Lost Abbey glass...Thanks to Sean for popping this Sunday...Pours a light gold, not very appealing, a very foamy head, great retention, light lacing...Super sweet aroma, its all honey with a light hop finish...Taste is similarly sweet all honey, almost to the point of distracting and makes it tough to drink, especially in the summer when I want something a little refreshing, especially at 5.5%. There is a light hoppy bite on the finish. This is not easy to drink, too sweet. I wouldn’t recommend trading for this, but I’d probably drink it again.

Fresh bottle, consumed in 2008. Bright lemon yellow. Tight, uniformly-bubbled foam. Very unappealing nose of plastic, green banana, baked apples, coriander, floral hops, and black pepper. Touch of clove and lemon zest. Airy carbonation. Fuzzy on the tongue. Flavors are tangy and disharmonious with unripe banana clashing with extremely astringent notes of plastic, coriander and alcohol. Flabby body, fairly vegetal, with a pervasive baked-apple sweetness deadening the brighter nuances, Dull, wet, slightly grainy malt. Overabundance of slippery melon notes, also. Closes slickly with some floral hops trying to poke through, and ghostlike hay-tinged malt lingering. Pretty much on par with the rest of Lost Abbey Belgians…extremely unpolished and tainted with plastic.

750ml courtesy of BOLTZ – thanks J! Pours light gold with a 2 finger snow white head. The nose is lemon zest, wheat, spice and light yeast. The taste is spicy yeast, dusty wheat, light citrus and coriander with a slight bitter hop finish. Medium prickly mouthfeel. Very good.

Bottle pours cloudy gold with a white head. Aroma shows notes of lemon, yeast, and saltine crackers. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of wheat, apple, and a touch of spice. Overall body is light to moderate, and somewhat bitter.

750ml bottle pours a clear gold with a hazy, white head. Nose is mild, honey, chalk, flowers. Flavor is sweet, yeasty, malty, flowers, honey. Finish is mild, lightly chalky. Straight forward saison.

Exactly as intentioned apparently. Some positive Noble hops. Delicious cracker, biscuit malt flavors. Nothing spicy or fancy. Just straightforward golden delicious (slightly fruity, apple) ale with low esters and hops coming through in the nose and taste. Excellent stuff with Urthel and Lost Abbey signatures.

transparent gold, bubbly frothy white head. Lots of lemon, wheat, and faint pepper, not very complex but balanced. Flavor similar, lots of lemon and Brett, light pepper. Palate a bit overcarboned, accentuates thin profile. Not as soapy as the Red Barn, more floral, but both similar in heavy carbonation and light floral shades.
