COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

Bottle @ our annual Christmas night bottle share... Poured hazy, golden yellow with a mild head. A nice, mildly funky Saison with notes of yeast spice, citrus, and some bitterness. But a malt and grassy balance was nice. Some esters with more fruit esters.

Bottle shared by a kind soul on the party bus to Fort Collins. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a huge bretty white head. Nose is citrus, light malt, Belgian yeast, and hits of burlap/ barnyardy brett, peppery yeast, and funk. Flavor is similar with light malt, some bug brett, burlap, peppery yeast, and more brett. Fizzy in body and lingering brett into the finish. Interesting saison.

Bottle shared by someone on the party bus, thanks! Pours a cloudy yellow color with a medium white head. A big nose of banana and dust. The flavor is ripe citrus, farmhouse notes, banana esters, very dry and dusty. Nice.

2008 bottle. It pours a nice effervescent golden color with a decent white head. The aroma has a bit of funk, hay and grass along with some apple skin and light spicy yeast. The flavor is more fruity with apple, pear, orange, apricots and more hay. A little spice near the finish. It’s medium bodied with high carbonation. I love how a Saison can be so fruity, but finish dry at the same time. This is a good example of that. The underlying hay and grassy earthiness make this a winner for me. Impressive how it’s held up over four years.

(2008) Bottle shared by Awesome Steve October 2011, thanks! Pours a musty, cloudy yellow. Reminds me of a wit. Nose is almond, dry malts, and a bit of bitter, fruit apple skin. Thin to medium mouthfeel with high carbonation. Finishes dry and the flavor falls off a bit with some slickness. Glad to have tried it!

750ml bottle. Cloudy/ hazy straw yellow, with moderate white head (decent retention). Not too much carbonation. Aroma is floral, some citrus and bready/biscuity yeast. Taste is crisp and clean, lemon and coriander, earthy and some tartness. Finish is dry and tart. Very little bitterness. After 4 years in the bottle pretty much all hop characteristics are gone. Still, a nice summery saison.

Lighter gold. Clean aromatics showing some lavender and heather. Nimble palate with some soapy notes on the palate along with coriander and fresh pear. Long, expressive finish

Bottle:   Straw in color, somewhat cloudy, moderate to large frothy white head, sticky lacing.   Funk on the nose, almost seems like Brett.   Otherwise pale breadiness, slightly floral and grassy.   Soft funkiness on the tongue, pale breadiness, even softer grass.   Does have a Bretty aspect.   Clean, slightly tart, but could use a touch more sweetness.   I actually like this one more than most.   Seems more Belgian like than many others brewed stateside.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   Finishes quick, clean, but almost too quick.   Just needs to be a bit more tart and I think it would be DY-NO-MITE!
