This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Bottle. Pours a fairly hazy dark golden color with a moderate white head on there. Nose has some wheat on there and hay, and only seems a bit sour. Only a slight bit of funk. Taste is quite sour with some nice farmhouse elements. Pretty drinkable.

On draft at Caponeís Lost Abbey event, where I got to enjoy it with the brewer himself seated at our table! Nice butterscotch-colored pour with a little lace. A hoppy, funky, complex saison. Flavor of brett, and a little pepper and spice.

On tap poured into a stemmed tulip. The aroma is a combination of lemon and other tropical fruits, with some ginger, apricot, and a mild yeasty / barnyard funk. Itís hazy yellow orange appearance is topped by a foamy white head that leaves a good puffy lace, but only retains a thin ring with tiny splotches on the surface. Itís a mellow, medium sweet and bitter with a very light sour touch. Itís notably creamy with a very soft, pillowy carbonation. The medium full body finishes with fruity notes of pear and apricot, as well as a spicy pepper. The aftertaste is light and grassy.
