This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Great saison. Good aroma and pours a typical hazy clear. Strong banana and citrus notes but they balance each other out well and don’t overwhelm your taste buds.

Bottle from De Molen webshop enjoyed at home. This is in my opinion a great saison. I can taste and imagine the red barn. Maby you have too be a country boy to understand but this is great. Only thing i have to put a finger on is the smell... Not much of it.

On tap, this was a boring saison that I didnt feel had enough spice or earth flavors.. it was very bland I thought, but it was carbonated so thats a plus for LA.

750ml bottle (9/2011) pours hay golden orange with 2 finger head. Nose is fruty yeast and apples, spices, citrus. Taste is earthy apple, hay, citrus, spices. Finish is earthy fruit and rustic spices. Did not hold up very well to age.

Orange, luftig feine schaumkrone, säuerlich fruchtiges aroma, fruchtig würzig (pfeffer) im geschmack, anhaltender nachklang nach pfeffer und säure, alles gut abgestimmt ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured to NB globe A: pours a golden straw hue with two finger medium thickness head which resolves to a decent quilt of loosely whipped egg white. Affluent lacing around edges. The rim of the beer creeps up the sides as though begging to rise. Good looker. S: Banana, clove, over steeped black tea, herbal grassiness, lemon rinds, and the slightest hint of sweet mint. I like the subtlety and complexity of the nose here. T: Earthy, bitter, sweet, grainy. Whispers of tea, hay, sourness. The nose is more intriguing than the taste. Tannic. M: Initially quite slicking, the finish dries like a red wine (think cab, syrah, malbec). Steals the moisture from the palate. This makes me require another drink to replenish that initial lubrication prior to the drying. Light body with punchy carbonation. Fun mouthfeel. D: This is a good beer. I can’t say I would drink more than one in a sitting, but 750ml is not a challenge by any means. I’m just now getting into saisons, we’ll see how I feel in a couple months about this one. Hazy greyed orange with white foamy head. Rustic, coppery farm nose. Dry and spicy initial taste, bag of cheap oranges and soft bitterness. Firm carbonation but mouthfeel didn’t quite marry with and juiciness in the main beer. Finish of straw, peppery and linger of lemon. Wee bit milky? Meh.

A nice enough saison, sweet but not overly so with oranges and peach to the front.. A slight pepper and spicy finish, did not pick up a huge saison feel but it was ok.

750 ml bottle at the stone brew pub in the airport in San Diego. Cloudy orange yellow color with a beautiful fluffy white heAd. Taste is one of the better saisons I've had in a while ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
