Commercial Description:
Perhaps no country embraces the use of fruit in beers more so than Belgium. Numerous traditional as well as regional specialty ales are infused with every sort of fruit imaginable. In this way, the flavor of the fruit becomes especially prominent. Red Poppy Ale is a veritable celebration of Sour Cherries in an explosion of aromas and tastes. Brewed from a brown ale base and aged in our oak barrels for over 6 months, this beer is not for the faint of heart. The Golden Poppy is the state flower of California and the Red Poppy is found in Flanders Fields where our inspiration for this beer comes from.

draft. ah, another local sour to fall in love with. hmmmmm...poured dirty mud colored with not much head to speak of. The nose was bright with sourness, wood, and sour cherry. Flavors were malty with plenty of sour wood flavors. The ending was dry...perfect sour ale, no doubt. I like the growing wood flavors and the fermented fruit notes...it’s definitely a well made fun sour ale to fall in love with.

Bottle from deftim13. Thanks for this interesting beer. Aromas of cherries both mildly sweet and tart, some funk, a litle malt and a touch of oak. Pours a hazy brown/orange/red with little head. Flavors go through of progression of initial tartness followed by a good dose of sweet and tart cherry. More sweet/tart flavors continue to battle it out as some oak and funk come through as well. Medim sour lingers on the teeth and mouth. Pretty dry and a little funky. Some cherry juice makes an appearance too. This is a nice beer. Thanks to deftim for letting me have the opportunity to try this rare beer.

btl opened by JohnC. Hazy red tint. A nice cherry tartness in the aroma. Very acidic sour cherry flavor with a sour finish as well. Solid palate and good carbonation. A very nice offering indeed.

375 ml bottle - thick amber and glowing mostly clear against the light; thin off-white head; very tart aromas of sour cherries; kind of dank and sweet; drinks very smooth with a muted zing of sourness; the touch of vegi-like funkiness reminds me of the walking man mushroom sour from brouwer’s sour fest, but better; earthy, sugary thickness to it from the cherries; yummy!!!

Bottle, with a big thanks to alexanderj. Muddy light brown, some orange hints and a lot of sediment floating around. aroma is some sour cherries, a little leather. flavor is soft tart cherries, not too sour, some sweeter fruit also but not much, and overall a little leathery. Reminded me of a subtler version of hannsens oude kriek.
