From the Sinners club. 4 of us split a membership, and are paying a crapload of money to get these beers to Florida, so this better be worth it. Pours out a combo of red and purple, sort of looks like a bruised piece of fleshy citrus fruit. Small head, light brown, about 1/2 finger thick. Some retention and spot lacing. The nose is wonderful, and the best part of this beer. I spent a good 20 minutes smelling it and taking everything in before I ever took a sip. Sour ripe cherries, cherry pie filling, balsamic vinegar, wood and oak notes and some nice earthiness. Tastes very good as well, maybe a bit less enjoyable than the aroma, but we are just picking nits here, and it’s more to do with the fact this smells so damn good than any fault of the flavor. Sour cherry mash, cherry candy and pie filling, oak, musty earth and balsamic vinegar again all make a showing. Not sure if any Brett was used in this beer, because the sourness comes more from the cherries and the vinegar notes to me, but I could be off there. Medium bodied, slightly sticky, clings to the tongue. Average carbonation but overall this is very fun to drink, and very satisying as well. Long finish, full of the cherries and vinegar, and always keeping that earthiness and woody notes. I want more, now.
Awesome beer from one of my two favorite styles. Would love to try this one again with a little age on it, because this can only get better I think. Exceeded my expectations.
DaSilky1 (1528), San Diego, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 draft. ah, another local sour to fall in love with. hmmmmm...poured dirty mud colored with not much head to speak of. The nose was bright with sourness, wood, and sour cherry. Flavors were malty with plenty of sour wood flavors. The ending was dry...perfect sour ale, no doubt. I like the growing wood flavors and the fermented fruit notes...it’s definitely a well made fun sour ale to fall in love with. riversideAK (1468), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle from deftim13. Thanks for this interesting beer. Aromas of cherries both mildly sweet and tart, some funk, a litle malt and a touch of oak. Pours a hazy brown/orange/red with little head. Flavors go through of progression of initial tartness followed by a good dose of sweet and tart cherry. More sweet/tart flavors continue to battle it out as some oak and funk come through as well. Medim sour lingers on the teeth and mouth. Pretty dry and a little funky. Some cherry juice makes an appearance too. This is a nice beer. Thanks to deftim for letting me have the opportunity to try this rare beer. decaturstevo (1134), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jul 13, 2008 btl opened by JohnC. Hazy red tint. A nice cherry tartness in the aroma. Very acidic sour cherry flavor with a sour finish as well. Solid palate and good carbonation. A very nice offering indeed. SuzyGreenberg (799), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 10, 2008 375 ml bottle - thick amber and glowing mostly clear against the light; thin off-white head; very tart aromas of sour cherries; kind of dank and sweet; drinks very smooth with a muted zing of sourness; the touch of vegi-like funkiness reminds me of the walking man mushroom sour from brouwer’s sour fest, but better; earthy, sugary thickness to it from the cherries; yummy!!! golubj (947), Redwood City, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle, with a big thanks to alexanderj. Muddy light brown, some orange hints and a lot of sediment floating around. aroma is some sour cherries, a little leather. flavor is soft tart cherries, not too sour, some sweeter fruit also but not much, and overall a little leathery. Reminded me of a subtler version of hannsens oude kriek.
