4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 doublebock (333) - California, USA - JAN 27, 2012
Cloudy light brown color with thin white head. Musty oaky aroma with a hint of whisky. Sour tart palate with subtle fruit flavor. Hard to tell its cherry with any certainty. Initial taste reminds me of a Belgian lambic. Finish has of mellow bourbon flavor with notes of Vanilla To find an American sour is rare and bourbon barrel though rising in poPularity is -still relatively rare but to find a barrel aged sour (two of my favorites) is a beer lovers holy grail.

Bottle. Pours dark red/ruby with a good off-white head, some retention, no lace. Aroma of cherries, oak, brown sugar, funk. Taste is tart, sour, cherries, oak, vinegar, with a slight sweetness. Palate is soft, slick, high carbonation. Very nice, but when opened with supplication did not compare.

Bottle from Nugget. Aroma and flavor of tart cherries, light brown sugar, and was refreshingly dry. Wonderfully made beer, but I also don’t get the pricetag. Great beer.

Poured into tulip, finger of off white head. Sediment is at the bottom. Smell is tart and balanced. Taste is strong cherry. Sour, almost bitter. Candied, almost. Very smooth and balanced. Sits on the tongue quite well. Very well done, but I don’t think it’s worth the price tag.
