4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
From the corked, caged bottle dated 12/24/13. The pour is deep brown to about black with a tremendous tan foamy head that slowly settles back. The aroma has plenty of dark fruit like black cherry, some chocolate, waffles(?), and an earthy hop note. The booze is evident though. The body is full, thick, and bold. The taste is also on the boozy side but there are still some dark malts, chocolate notes, and the tartness of black cherry. I enjoyed it immensely but I bet I would have liked it more a year from now.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Jason. Thanks! Shared at home in small snifters. Pours a jet black with a mocha colored thin head. Slight oily look as well. Aroma is powerful with dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla, licorice (anise), roasted malts, black currants. The taste is even better with the dark chocolate and cocoa nibs heavy, black currants, creamy vanilla, confectioners sugar, and a hint of graham cracker. Full body, creamy sticky mouth, low carbonation. Heavy finish with the same flavors as the aroma. Very good.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A black beer with a big, beautiful dark head that is a big bubbled. The nose is enjoyable, smooth and balanced. Coffee, liquirice, some strenght of alcohol, hint of sweet strawberries. Taste is powerfull and also smooth, salt liquirice, black coffee and balanced roastiness. Taste is not very dry due to balanced sweetness. The long end with liquirice and coffee. Full bodied, nicely smooth to drink. Powerfull beer with coffee and liqurice, the great balance.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark pitch black beer with beige head on top. Aroma has in your face roasted malt flavors, dark chocolate, coffee and some notes of hops. Taste starts with dark chocolate, then lots of roasted flavors and coffee. Oily body with low carbonation. A very roasted Imperial Stout, but still big, bold and beautiful. Lost Abbey seems to deliver excellent beers all the time.

Transfer from BA review on 3-28-12 -
Served in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a deep dark black color with a small brown head. The head doesn’t last long, but fades away to give some nice lacing. As the glass is swirled you can see the thickness of the brew. It clings to the glass with each swirl; as though it has thick sticky fingers that cling to the side of the glass.
Smell – The smell is robust of roasted coffee and chocolate aromas. There is a very light sweet vanilla and dark fruit aroma that are mixed in, balancing out some of the more roasted flavors quite nicely.
Taste – A heavy coffee and chocolate flavor meets the tongue. The taste is a little more on the bitter side at first, but sweetens as the taste proceeds. It has a nice transition as the light vanilla and dark fruit that was detected in the aroma works its way into the taste. The transition is very smooth and the taste is very balanced. Even at 11%, the alcohol flavor is extremely light. This is one nice robust and easy to drink brew.
Mouthfeel - A nice creamy body with a slightly below average carbonation level. The smoothness of the mouth is quite exceptional and gives a wonderful feel on the tongue.
Overall- This is a fantastic imperial stout. It has a wonderfully balanced flavor along with a very nice aroma and mouthfeel. Good stuff!!
