Can someone tell me why this California brewery (& it’s partner Port) have their beers for sale in Washington but not in Oregon--the beers have to come through here? Happy to see this beer at the Oregon brewer’s festival. Think I’m posting this review on the right version--11% abv, but according to the program part aged in bourbon barrels. yum yum. dark beer with dark head.Aromas of molasses, alcohol, dark rye.Flavors of roasted malt, coffee, brown sugar & oak. so smooth, a little slick. Thank you.

Very boozy. A strong molasses and mild coffee flavors. Not very memorable honestly but not because of anything bad in particular. Nose has almost a eucalyptus note to it. Most memorable part of the beer

Black color. Roasted malt aromas, caramel and chocolate. Very balanced taste, bitter dark chocolate with sweet elements of vanilla and caramel. Roasted finish with lingering chocolate cake. Solid Imperial Stout.

Got this and another good one from Rachel for Father’s Day. Surprised that I had never had this one. I always think that the Los Abbey is a bit pricy across the board, but I thought I would have tried this by now. Have some high hopes. Bummed that there was no bottled on date.
Poured a pitch black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Very serene setting. Lovely. Good-to-very good spotty lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled dark cocoa nibs, milk chocolate, almost a chocolate cake feel, toffee, caramel, roasted coffee malts, light molasses and hints of licorice. (Smell - 4.50)
Taste follows the nose nicely, maybe not quite as good. Chocolate cake, milk chocolate, dark cocoa, roasted nuts, bitter dark roasted coffee (but not overwhelming), roasted toffee, molasses, black licorice, char wood, malt chocolate and dark espresso. Not boozy at all. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was very good, much better than I even thought. Would recommend it to anyone. (Overall - 4.25)

From bottle. Kept it in the basement for 2 years! Have to say I was just a bit dissapointed. It is superb beer but if I compare it with other stouts around that strenght and density this one seems a bit empty. Sure 2 years helped to get out some interesting notes of dried fruit, but overall besides good nothing much came out of me! Would mind to meet again!

Servida en un Spiegelau Tulip. APARIENCIA: de color totalmente negro, no pasa nada de luz a través de ella, corona de espuma color marrón de mediana retención, con burbujas compactas y algunas abiertas, y “alcohol legs”
AROMA: destaca el chocolate amargo, granos de espresso, muy licorosa, frutos oscuros como cerezas negras, dátiles, ciruelas, melaza, ligero caramelo y toffee, cuero.
SABOR: al tocar el líquido la boca se siente algo ligeramente dulce, ya en trago notas a chocolate amargo, cocoa, granos de espresso, atrás frutos oscuros como dátiles, cerezas negras, melaza, ligero dulzor. En el retrogusto un amargor medio con persistencia del gusto a chocolate.
SENSACIÓN: Cuerpo medio con ligera sensación untuosa, baja carbonatación. El alcohol bien enmascarado, sólo se siente una ligera sensación cálida en garganta al correr el líquido.
RESUMEN: una excelente Imperial Stout que tal vez no tiene todo el reconocimiento mundial que merece.

Draught at Lost Abbey/ Port Brewing Taproom San Marcos, 23.4.16. Black with a tan head. Roasty, woodsy with a little bit of cocoa in the nose, bitter, vanilla, a little medicinal, a little bit of iodine in the mouth. Full body, smooth texture, a little bitter finish with vanilla and wood.

75cl bottle, served in a snifter glass. Poured black as night on a moonless night with a two finger creamy mocha tan head. Aromas of roasted espresso beans, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits. Taste is absolutely fantastic: Roasted espresso beans, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, roasted nuts, caramel fudge, licorice, toast, whole wheat current bread, dates, raisins. It also has lots of vinous qualities. Very creamy texture, thick & sticky on the palate. Slightly bitter. A full body with a long roasted espresso & chocolate bittersweet finish. This is an absolutely amazing Imperial Stout!

Wow. This was special. Great aromas and flavors of roasted malt, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee and a finishing bitterness. Beautifully black with a nice tan head. Heavy, oily and smooth.
