The history of the bible and religion is indeed the struggle of good vs. evil. Our Serpent’s Stout recognizes the evil of the dark side that we all struggle with. This is a massively thick and opaque beer that begs the saints to join the sinners in their path to a black existence.

Amazing imp stout. I got a 16 oz pour instead of 10...score! Very dark and vorracious. Big alcohol taste with a nice finish on the palate.

Bottle shared by tom10101, 3 years old and kept in a proper cellar. Pours a really dark brown with a medium milk chocolate head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of coconut, bourbon, caramel and roasted malt. Taste is of ash, burnt cereals and coconut. I wish I could understand why, but sometimes I hate ash in beer but this time it worked well enough. Body was medium-full and carbonation low to medium. Overall a really good, rich and tasty RIS.

On tap at Whole Foods Market – Chandler. Heavy roasted malt nose with a good amount of phenols, burnt toast, biscuit, with some dark chocolate and caramel. Nice ebony pour with a smooth sand-colored head. Burnt barley highlights the taste, with biscuit, plastic landscaping tarp, and some molasses and light cream. coming into play, followed by a dry, earthy bitter finish. Fairly thick body with a roasty, very dry finish. Solid, but not quite as stellar as many of Lost Abbey’s other offerings.

Pours a thick brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of bubbly tan brown head. Aroma of dark earthy roast, hints of tobacco and dust, faint dark chocolate. Taste follows, a bit acrid for me with all the roast, but still pretty good. Thick mouth, moderate carbonation, decent but not as awesome as I was expecting.

750ml corked bottle, 2015 vintage. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and chocolate. Pours black with a huge light brown head with nice retention and a little bit of lacing. Starts smooth with good roasted malt and chocolate flavors, though a little light on the body for an imperial stout. Finishes fairly smooth with some coffee and a bit of alcohol burn to it. Nice stout, but marks off for the alcohol and body.

bottle shared by tom10101, thanks bro! pours very dark brown with a very nice dark crema head/cap, reviving and leaving nice lacing. sweet and smoky beef stock, bovril-like *TM, iron-y bitter chocolate, espresso and cream, resin, burnt malts - almost ashy cherries, oxidized raisins, warming alcohol. light carbonation, medium to full body; assertive yet balanced resinous-coffee-smoky finish. danish-like imperial stout. enjoyed!

Bottle (750 ml). Bottled on 12/2011, so 3+ years old now. Split 5-ways with the Québec crew.

Appearance: Pitch black with a huge mostly lasting thick brown head and good lacing.

Aroma: Coffee, roasted malt, molasses, ashes, smoke, chocolate, light vegetal notes, light fruitiness and hints of black liquorice.

Taste: Coffee and roasted malt at first followed by a big molasses presence, ashes, smoke, light fruitiness and light bitterness. There’s also an acidity impression from the roasted malts. Sweetness level is moderate for the style.

Palate: Medium to full body. Medium carbonation. Creamy and fluffy mouthfeel. Really smooth. Ashy and roasty finish.

Overall: Good balance despite the ashes being a little too present for my liking. I suspect that the aging toned down everything except the smokey/ashy presence. Other than that, it was a really smooth RIS, but still quite complex and tasty. Alcohol is well hidden/integrated. It’s "drinkable" for the style. It held up really well for a 3+ years RIS.
