750ml bottle. 2008 vintage. pours black with creamy dark swirling tan head. an amazing looking head. a big roasty and yeasty nose with bakers chocolate and dark fruits. flavors are dark chocolate, dark fruits, nutty, and yeasty. a really chewy mouth feel. the alcohol is a tad boozy which i think will mellow with a year of aging. a great beer now however.

Aug 26, 2008 25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a whipped tan head. Nose is chocolate, banana and brown bread; deeper earth and grass. Thick, creamy and warming like an ice cream soda spiked with liqueur. Taste is espresso, dates, licorice, toffee and dark chocolate. Smooth finish, cafe au lait. I’m surprised to see such an intense stout from the Lost Abbey. Exceptional.

Aug 24, 2008 Dry dark fruit aromatics that suggest...ta da..dried fruits. Slightly soapy scrubbed plastic notes as well. Some chocolate and boozy alcohol as well. The body od dark brown to near black with ruby highlights and holds a thin mocha colored head that is somewhat lasting. Tastes of stewed root veggies, cocoa powder, dust and astringent/roasted malts. The finish is fairly bitter.

Appearance is a pitch black hue, tan creamy head dissipates to a ring, creamy lacing on the glass.
Smell is coffee and roast malts, hints of chocolate, nuts, grassy hops, and alcohol.
Taste is dominated by coffee and roast malts, some dark chocolate, smoke, grassy hops, and dark fruits, finishes sweet with some dry bitterness.
Mouthfeel is full-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, carbonation on the lighter side.
Drinkability is high, this is a solid stout with a good balance of malts and subtle hops, alcohol is well-masked.

Aroma and flavor of burnt roasty malts, chocolate, coffe, black licorice and tobacco.

Aug 19, 2008 Poured black into the glass with a nice dark brown head. I will be honest, this is from lost abbey so I was expecting this to be slightly overhyped. Aroma was dark fruit and bitter chocolate. Taste was more dark fruity, raisins, prunes, molasses, chocolate, smoke, roast. This beer really came together. Best imperial I have had in a while, just when I was starting to get pretty worn out on the style. I seem to like this more than most, but this really impressed me. Thanks a ton Kan!
