The history of the bible and religion is indeed the struggle of good vs. evil. Our Serpent’s Stout recognizes the evil of the dark side that we all struggle with. This is a massively thick and opaque beer that begs the saints to join the sinners in their path to a black existence.

Deep brown-black, oil thick. solid dirt brown head. Sweet aroma with a hint of alcohol, beautiful. Bold flavors all around, but not overbearing. Licorice and coffee, chocolate malt are all present. A very clean imperial stout for its thickness.

2013 Vintage corked and caged 750 ml bottle grabbed off the shelves on my visit to Hoboken. Pours pitch black with a massive dark brown head that lingers a good while. Big chocolate and roast aromas, some dark fruits, and some smoke and char. Flavor is big smoke and char, more char, roastC some chocolate covered raisins, then a bitter smokey finish. Not what I was expecting but a nice surprise. Medium bodied with low plus carbonation. Sweetens up as I go. Not bad.

750 ml bottled 4 months ago, purchased at Applejack, and poured into a snifter at home. Black, opaque appearance with a big bubbly brown head, slowly diminishing, leaving light lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, dark chocolate, molasses, oak, mild earthy hops, dark fruits, light coffee and light vanilla. Similar flavor, big, rich and roasted, malty, dark, earthy, caramel, toffee, light alcohol (bourbon, red wine), mildly bitter, lightly fruity and lightly salty. Full body, creamy, lush, chewy, thick and pretty smooth with a lingering finish. Overall, a pretty damn good sipper. Side by side with Bell’s Expedition.

Tap at Lost Abbey/Port tap room, 18/04/14. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that thins to a swirl. Nose is big on cohocolate, lightly rosted tones, dark malt, molasses, dark fruits, pinch of spice, lght booze strains. Taste comprises drk chocolate, roast, light green pepper, chilli spice, mineral tones, earthy, brown sugars. Medium + body, fine carbonation, smooth on the palate, light boozey heat in the close. Decent impy but not top draw for me.

Tap at Lost Abbey with GT2. Inky pour, great red foam. Fumey alcohol nose with coffee, rich liquor. Taste has some sour apple, creamy chocolate, decent alcohol presence. Higher carbonation. Sour aftertaste. Good, but not as great as I remember.

(bottle) aroma of roast, dried fruit; rich balanced flavour with a bit of alcohol undertone, long light bitter finish; slightly creamy palate; same flavour at 6-8% ABV would be much nicer

In short: a robut stout.
Smooth, sily palated. Roasty, coffe and liquor notes. Quite enjoyable one.
