4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 JohnQPublic (387) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAR 27, 2009Bottle into snifter. Huge thanks to buckeyesox for this one - I believe it’s about a year old.
Pours opaque black, with a one-finger very fluffy dark brown head, settling down into a denser, but thin, brown cap that doesn’t want to go away. The head is fantastic for this beer.
Nose is equally fantastic - a nice mix of espresso, rich chocolate, and vivid dark fruits, with the emphasis on the dark fruits and cocoa. The nose is just so rich but still supremely balanced and integrated.
Starts off with just a huge, delicious espresso presence right off the bat, with a secondary note of rich cocoa, and lots of licorice and dark fruit swirling around in there. There’s a smoky tobacco quality as well. Superb in every respect.
Mouthfeel is just as fantastic - lighter than expected, with a more active carbonation that’s still soft and light on the tongue. You just don’t want to stop drinking this thing. Almost no alcohol presence, fantastic mouthfeel, delicious flavor - can’t say enough about this beer. Hits on all cylinders.
As a note, the alcohol starts to warm you up about halfway through, and comes out a bit more as the beer hits room temperature, but never detracts from the flavors or body of the beer. Still an A+ effort.

Bottle, courtesy of Zer0, @Dean Sticky Floor Tasting 2. Pours a pitch black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma is some tobacco, dark fruits, molasses and some burnt caramel. Flavor is very sweet, light boozy and this has a thick, sugary mouthfeel. Very good beer with a good drinkability.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 IvoR (64) - New Jersey, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Pours black with nice thick tan head. Aroma is subdued with some chocolate and roasted nuts detectable. Flavor is too strong for me. The roasted malt is overpowering the rest of the flavor and is enhancing the bitterness of the hops. Alcohol is detectable in the flavor. Leaves a spicy mouthfeel in the finish.

Fra flaske på Cardinaltreff 2.pinsedag: Jeg siterer og underskriver Asle Bjørns beskrivelse: Coffee, dried dark fruits, vanilla, chocolate and vinuous notes on the nose. Alcohol masterfully hidden in the aroma, mouthfeel and flavour. Full bodied and smooth. Flavors rich with coffee and liquorice; chocolate and leather notes on a roasted flavor base. Rich and well balanced. Full bodied and smooth. Tilføyer kanskje en anelse tjære i aromaen. Forførende som slangen i Paradis. Go on, tempt me!

Nose is abv roasted malts hops and chocolate. Well balanced and big and complex albeit minus the carbonation. Flavor follows the nose. The hops and chocolate balance the abv and malt. Rich and robust with a dark chocolate bitter finish

2012 bottle served in a snifter
I had been holding on to this one for a while ever since I tried it at the brewery. The aroma is of chocolates dark fruit smoke and licorice. Pours a midnight black ( similar to old viscosity ) dark chocolate head that leaves a sticky glass as it goes down. The taste is smooth with lots of chocolate and spices. Mouthfeel was heavy but very smooth and sticky. Overall a great beer, a must have if you haven't had it before.
