ross (1511), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jun 6, 2008 I have been looking at this one for more than a month, and finally I could stand it no longer. The temptation was too much to bear. Pours out a dark black color with a tan head. Perfect pour. The smell is fruity with dark fruits, plums, some coffee, chocolate, caramel malts, hops, just damn near perfect, but not quite. Perfection comes in the taste, which is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Very smooth and rich, an explosion of flavor. Coffee, chocolate, damn, so many things here. Perfect mouthfeel, plenty of carbonation which is typically a rarity with an imperial stout. This beer is fucking awesome. The good news? I have more. The bad news? I only have 2. Drank this one alone. By myself. Solo. Faced it. And I have no regrets. The next time I drink this I will be sharing it....... maybe.
turbo (1248), Arizona, USA Aug 21, 2008 Black with a big, thick brown head and good lacing.
Aroma and flavor of burnt roasty malts, chocolate, coffe, black licorice and tobacco. masonjer (429), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 19, 2008 Poured black into the glass with a nice dark brown head. I will be honest, this is from lost abbey so I was expecting this to be slightly overhyped. Aroma was dark fruit and bitter chocolate. Taste was more dark fruity, raisins, prunes, molasses, chocolate, smoke, roast. This beer really came together. Best imperial I have had in a while, just when I was starting to get pretty worn out on the style. I seem to like this more than most, but this really impressed me. Thanks a ton Kan! omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 19, 2008 Bottled, thanks Crosling! Very black, majestic brownish head. Lots of chocolate, some coffee and tar. Sweet and concentrated. A bit of yeasty spritzyness gives it more life and a bit of Belgian air. The malt structure is sfot and mild completely edgeless, which separates it from the bulk of Imperial stouts. Finishes with cocoa powder bitterness. Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2008 Thanks for the trade Crushinat0r. Pours a chocolately thick dark brown with lots of attractive dark brown head. Balance is always worth currency, and this RIS has it. Chocolate and roast and not overdone though substantially roasty. Thick mouthfeel. I have had lots of great imperial stouts recently, and this is included in the group. Satisfying and very drinkable. wickedpete (551), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Aug 16, 2008 Black body, fluffy brown head with filmy lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, raisins, dry cocoa powder, and espresso. Flavor has lots of chocolate and a touch of coffee roast and bitterness.
