Bottle gushed all over my lap. Deep mahogany in color with a tan, foamy head. Stringy lacing. Lots of vanilla and alcohol, mostly bourbon. Toffee or caramel come out in the malts. Bitter and a bit acrid from the alcohol. There is a big note of brown sugar that comes out in the flavor. Raisins mix in with the vanilla. Creamy, and full bodied with a finish that is just as complex as the rest of the beer. Delicious.

Pours very dark, with a small tan head. Buttery, boozy, wood aromas up front, lead to a smooth caramel, sweet cocoa, toffee taste on medium to full bodied palate. Excellent.

Corked 37.5 cl bottle @ home (2012 vintage). Pours dark brown with a lot of sediment and a tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate, dark fruits, and caramel - with an alcoholic finish.

From bottle : Pours a very dark brown, not really able to see through...Small brown head. The aroma is strong in alcohol, but also strong in oak and vanilla. But when you go to taste it, almost all of the alcohol disappears. It goes down so smooth. The taste is light and sweet. The finish is pleasant as well. I truly understand why reputation of this brew is what it is. Fantastic.

Muddy murky dark brown, little head. Smells of chocolate covered cherries, funky, vanilla, caramel malt, brown sugar, toffee. Taste of chocolate, toffee, espresso, brown sugar, very little hops, some barrel character, a slight spice or alcohol burn at the end. Nice malt flavors, complex, enjoyable sipper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 2008 version. Dark brown with no head. Tobacco, wood, coconut, plums, prunes, alcohol, brown sugar/syrup. Full body, oily/sticky texture, flat carbonation, heavy sweet but has some tannins and alcohol to challenge the sweetness. Warming and heavy sipper.

Bottle at home on a cold and rainy spring night. 2011 Vintage. Pour is murky brown with a small tan head and decent lacing. Huge raisin, vanilla, roasted dates, oak, bread, oxidation, prunes, caramel, toffee, and deep bourbon notes in the aroma. Taste is caramelized sugars, raisins, grapes, tangy malt, charred wood, toffee, light earthiness, and cocoa with a light alcoholic burn on the backend. Slick/syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Roasty, semi-sweet and moderately oxidized Barleywine. Not bad, but need to revisit fresh.

Very dark brown pour, thin tan head that fizzles away. Nose is whiskey, whiskey-soaked raisins, chocolate, lots and lots of chocolate. Taste is bourbon soaked chocolate with dark fruits, a hint of tartness to the finish that balances the sweetness superbly. Medium mouthfeel, sharp carbonation.
