Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

2010 ABV: 11.5% 375ml Bottling stamp on neck says 2010 but was released in Jan 2011. It is called the 2011 Angels Share Brandy.

2009 vintage. Very well done barley wine. Pours dark maroon with good head and lacing. Light sourness, lots of mash malt here. Some citrus, some booze. Brandy is light and well-integrated. Light bitter-sour finish. Bottle pour at Churchkey’s 5th anniversary - thanks to Jackl for a taste of this.

For it's ABV, not super boozy. Chocolates, tart cherry. Really nice back of the tongue flavor stay ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Complex. Pours liquid brown lava. Flavor explosion with each sip as well as a designer flavor twist. Woody and chocolately with a slight hint of a Belgian quad. This is wonderfully decadent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12.7fl oz bottle @El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. 09-02-2014.
In short: smooth robust sweet ale.
Pours very dark with little tan head. Some head retention and lacing. Wood, liquor, caramel aromas. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is smooth, wood, liquor, caramel, vanilla flavours. Creamy mouthfeel. Balanced and very enjoyable.

Bottle @ cafe sara, Oslo. Sugar roasted figs meets sourdough bread. Deep oak flavor. The alcohol comes through. Has an untypical bitter finish which is nice. Nice beer, just don’t buy it in Norway ;)

Bottle from no idea when. Pours dark brown with a small, off white head. Aroma has lots of bourbon, caramel malts, butter, fat sugary sweetness. Not too much though. Taste is not as sweet, but still lots of caramel, licorice, filled chocolates, port wine, some candy. Full body, medium carb. Lovely. Just my style of barley wine.

Murky brown without foam, this has a boozy aroma with fruit, caramel, raisins, and toffee flavors that melt in your mouth. Alcohol just adds to the sweet finish. Beautiful.

Bottle. This is the stuff. Pours a dark brown, almost black, off white thin head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel malt, brown sugar, coffee, booze. Taste is very bourbon up front, roasted coffee, slight caramel malt, booze, yeast, earthyness.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 2012 vintage. Pours a a dark cola brown with almost no head and little lacing. Aroma is wonderful with nutty, caramel scent along with plums and figs. Also get some toasted coconut and vanilla. Taste is very similar with molasses sweetness and some chocolate syrup and a bit of roastiness. Get those nutty flavors with the dark fruits and the toasted coconut. Just a bit of alcohol. Finishes with some sweetness. Mouthfeel was oily and medium bodied with low carbonation. Delicious. Best barleywine I’ve had.
