Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Bottled. Opaque, brown head. Aroma of malts, port, liquorice, really nice. Very complex flavour, again the malts, vanilla, port and who knows what other stuff. This almost does not taste like a beer anymore. I’m stunned, this is absolutely fan-tas-tic. I’d love get my my hands on more of this, but it’s probably impossible to get around here. Thanks for sharing jbrus.

Dark nut brown color, small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, fruits and whiskey. Whiskey, vanilla, licorice ... some CO2 in the finish. Very liquerish and warming. Lovely, balanced, delicious beer. Beer for slow drinking.

Bottle@DTS. Bourbon and madeira aroma. Opague, light brown fine head, very nice lace. Dried dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, lots of raisins. Very smooth mouthfeel. What’s there to say? Just unbelievable. Shared my bottle with a couple of ratebeerians. Was I a fool or an angel? :-) NOTE: Had another bottle, vintage 2008. This was bad. It had a vinegar sourness that said: something went wrong in the barrel this time.

Bottle @ the RBESG08 Grand Tasting.
[thank you, magic dave]
Pours deep, redish brown with a great, small, creamy, beige head on top - truly a beauty to behold. Good duration on the head. Aroma has dried fruits, raisins, plums, very vinious, caramel, light chocolate, oak and a subdued tartness. Good hoppiness as well. Oily and fat mouthfeel. Sublime flavour, lots of dried fruits again, vinious and with a greatly balanced hops slap at the end. Truly deserving of its top 50 status.

Grand Tasting RBESG08. Dark brown colour with low pale brown head. Fantastic aroma with vanila, coconut, chocolate, violets to name the most prominent. Thick, yet somehow smooth mouthfeel loaded with violets, cocoa, vanilla, wood and a great vineous touch. A very smooth, well balanced complex beer.

small bottle sample at seattle international beerfest. Up front strong barley wine taste with long lasting boozy aftertaste. Very little head. Beer is very thick and malty, extremely tatsy, almost taste stronger than it really is, definetley one of my favorite beers ever!!!!!!! This beer will knock your socks off!

Bottled. Deep ambery colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some nice wooden and raisiny notes as well as vanilla and fruits. Some slight alcoholic sweetness too. Flavour is very much the same, and in a a perfect balance. As it got a bit warmer also licorice and some slight alcoholic burning notes came through.

Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand Tasting. Dark brown. Lasting beige head. You know when you have a highly rated beer, that you start a little sceptically at it, but by the end this won me over and I was searching for any spare glasses of it by the end. Thick malty rich cake aroma, rather a good beer with really good balance for a strong beer. It’s nice. Good alcoholic, euphoric effect. Hops on finish are balancing to the sweetness. Cool.
