Commercial Description:
Down in Kentucky and across the pond in Scotland, distillers who age their whiskeys for many years refer to the evaporation of the spirits from their barrels as “The Angel’s Share.” We couldn’t agree more. Our Angel’s Share is a barrel aged burgundy colored ale infused with copious amounts of dark caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied brandy barrels. Each batch spends no less than 6 months aging in the oak. The beer is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at inspired locations.

2008 ABV: 12.5%, gold lettering, 750ml and 375ml, with 2008 on label
2007 ABV: 11.5%, gold lettering, 750ml only
2006 ABV: 10.5%, black lettering, 750ml only

Wow what a great sipping beer! I waited a long time to get a hold of this and it blew my expectations away! The aroma was absolutely perfect! Strong oak, vanilla and chocolate with a heavy alcohol note. Pour was also perfect. A cloudy deep dark brown/near black with a 4 finger tan head. Taste was out of this world. Strong vanilla and oak with an earthy peat backbone with a scotch alcohol burn in the aftertaste. The oak and the burnt caramel malt flavors come in and out and justify the burn. Outstanding!

It is so nice to live in SD because of the number of great brewers. Lost Abbey is right at the top and Angel’s Share is one of their best. Such a hard beer to find (even in SD) and worth every penny I paid. Hues of dark cherry red in appearance but not taste. A proper hint of Brandy. Perfect palate from start to finish. Bought at the Linkery in South Park. Got the last bottle for $42 a pop.

Sampled courtesy mgumby10. Dark brown in color, sparse tan head. Decent amount of brandy, oak, fruity malts, alcohol on the nose. Very rich. Mostly smooth on the taste, despite a little alcohol burn, fruity finish. The sweetness and barrel don’t overpower, but they don’t really combine into what I was expecting for the hype.

Bottle, Merritt Island Throwdown. Pours muddy brown. Intense fig, prune in nose. Yeasty and sweetish with prune as well as fresh plum, and apple. Slightly sour. Finishes clean. Silky palate with low carbonation.

Pours a dark dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, sugar, alcohol. Nice flavor, but the alcohol is a little too much. copyright grimreeser

Thanks a TON miketd!!! Thanks to turdferguson I got to try this side to side with its bourbon barrel aged self. Poured a beautiful dark ruby brown with a one finger creamy tan head. Less carbonated than its bourbon version. The aroma was sweet, dark fruits, molasses, light subtle oak, nice light brandy aroma. The flavor was sweet, dry alcohol, nice oak character, vanilla, malty, caramel, raisin, oak tannin. The palate was warming and sweet with a nice oak background.

The color was very dark brown/ruby. The head was very thin, fizzy, and light beige. The aroma was alcohol, dark fruit, and chocolate/caramel. The flavor was alcohol, grape, tart, hoppy, spice, and dry. The palate was thick-bodied. The finish was warm.

Pours a dark dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, sugar, alcohol. Nice flavor, but the alcohol is a little too much. Have to let this sit for a while.
