BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 4, 200907 bottle thanks to dirty martini, thanks a bunch Larry. Poured a murky brown color with a moderate tan head that slowly diminished. Aroma of light brandy, sweet caramel malts, and fruit. Flavor consists of light brandy upon entry that leads into a sweet caramel malt flavor with undertones of fruit (apple, pear, and light citrus) with a great drying oak finish with hints of vanilla. Smooth and pretty creamy on the palate, awesome finish. Glad I finally decided to open it up, it was an awesome beer. Thanks again Larry. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Rudolf. Shared with Hopson, Molias & others. Pours a deep brown. Aromas of booze, oak, vanilla, caramel sweetness. Nice full mouthfeel. Two years ago I would not have liked. Change is GOOD. Whisky-bourbon oakiness. Slight smoke. Nice rich barleywine taste. Extremely delicious hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Feb 28, 2008 Courtesy of Swoop Jones, sampled at Coles in Buffalo- big time boozy molasses aroma. smelling the whisky as well. First sample revealed some major licorice, ginger, and even coconut flavors. The whisky was in there as well. As this thing warmed, it got better and better. A great sipper by a fire and with a cigar. Nicely done. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Feb 25, 2008 Big thanks to Secret Santa for this one. Almost black in appearance, very little head that dies fast, there is some slight reddish light that barely passes through. Rich raisin and molasses aroma, lots of dark fruit. Flavor is very similar, but with a bit of wood and vanilla note as well. Excellent integration of flavors, bourbon in no way leaping out from this. Good. Jayb0 (750), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Feb 20, 2008 Fabulously complex dessert beer. Lost Abbey is certainly at the top of US brewers for interesting, impeccably balanced, beers that are both original and deeply inspired by other classics. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bottle from ebay purchase, sampled with Dennis Bell. Pour was a velvety/hazy brown with a thin beige head. Aroma was captivating, a fig, raison, bourbon/alcohol swirl with a mild hint of chocolate. The taste "wow what a punch" Bourbon was the first thing that stood out followed by fruit and chocolate. The finish was a burn that was quite incredible. WARNING "YOUR STOMACH WILL BE FULL AFTER THIS".
A+ WORK radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Feb 15, 2008 Very dark brown in colour, thin off-white coloured head, very light lacing. The aroma was very hot and alcoholic, dark fruits, caramel, oak, caramel, wood, whiskey, lightly sweet. The flavour is very alcoholic, lots of caramel sweetness, vanilla and lots of bourbon. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes very hot, lingering. Becomes way too much, the alcohol in this is a major distraction. Quite a bit of bourbon in this, I can’t imagine the Bourbon Barrel version.

JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Feb 13, 2008 Wow, the nose on this thing. Promises a lot, then keeps it. Pours dark brown with diminishing tan head. Sweet, vinous aroma... dark fruits and rum. Yum. Flavor is sweet and raisiny, but there’s also a quick, restrained bitterness. Warming, warming. Reminds me a lot of an excellent Trappist quad with oaky-tannin elements. Awesome. Great experience.
